Santo Domingo.- Not one of the usually gabby officials of the Government was anywhere to be seen in the National Palace Monday, to comment on the overwhelming strike called by popular organizations.

President Leonel Fernandez arrived at the National Palace early, together with some other senior officials, who went into their offices at once and didn’t come out to face the media.

Most of the Palace employees arrived at work on time, while Police agents patrolled the area.

Hundreds of barrio, popular, union and community organizations headed by the Alternative Social Forum called the nationwide walkout to demand, among other grievances, the repeal of the tax package, a general wage increase of 35% and a halt of the blackouts.

They also demand a rollback of the increase in the electricity bill; curtailed Government spending and the revision and transparency in the handling of the Hydrocarbons Law.

When will we Dominicans learn ?

While the politico's stay 'out of sight' one has to draw the conclusion there in the same bed.

Protest protest protest with a little chaos on the side for a show of what ?

Nothing like a quiet surprise stay home strike for a day, like a "blue flu".

IDEA.......Dominicans need to become more creative / self reliant, what ever happened to "necessity is the mother of invention" ?

This a classic example of.....when people become totally dependent on the Gov. regulation then are at the mercy of Gov. sounds like a power [control] play to me.
