Santo Domingo.- To recover and preserve the Enriquillo Region’s (southwest) natural resources, the Environment and Tourism ministries, and the senator and five mayors of Bahoruco province signed an agreement to establish the “Tamayo-Bahoruco” ecotourism corridor

The agreement seeks to promote conservation biodiversity, and to introduce varieties which can adapt to the zone, such as timber, fruit and ornamental trees, to halt sedimentation, protect the landscape and bolster the ecosystems.

It includes visits by tourists starting July 24, with a low cost excursion that will set off from the Environment Ministry.

The agreement stipulates that the Environment Ministry will provide technical assistance, especially in reforestation projects for the zone, while the Office of the Senator will work to obtain the funding to establish and consolidate the Corridor.

Meanwhile, the municipal agencies will provide follow up to the natural areas in their communities, and will promote nature-friendly, socio-productive alternatives, and contribute to the system of protected areas.
