Santo Domingo.– Police agents arrested four suspects in the murder of Rooldine Lindor, a 20-year-old Haitian woman attending college in the Dominican Republic.
According to Jodel
Philogene, a former head of Zenith Radio TV quoted by Haiti Press Network, Lindor was murdered on July 12 after being raped. "She was looking for an apartment when her
assailants, posing as housing agents, assaulted and ultimately murdered
her."
Lindor was killed after giving 18,000 pesos for them to find an apartment lease, HPN added.

Sad....smh. Hopefully those guilty will be brought to justice. If not now....then eventually they will have to answer to God.

This is sad but as Veronica said, probably just a slap on the wrist.
From: Dominican Republic, vieja Santo Domingo
You people obviously have no idea of how serious rape cases are regarded here ,,,the main problem here is that the poor girls family are from Haiti and are not here to press charges. As so many judges here are women , if any rapist comes in front of them , they get far more than a slap on the wrist and more trouble inside the prison.

danny00 ..if you could reread my posting i referred to rape cases and not to drug cases which are entirely different . You imply that the law is different for the rich than for the poor and that is, regrettably , correct .The system here of granting bail favours the rich but whether you are rich or poor no one can escape the wrath of a family when they press charges against a rapist in court. The difference is that a rich man may finally be able to pay the family sufficient money so they do not proceed in court.

20-year-old college student raped and murdered in Dominican Republic.
This not good and the only reason why this news was allowed to leak out by Dominican media was because she was a Haitian national. Had she been an American or European the gov't would have been hush, hush..............it would be detrimental to tourism.
From: Haiti
This is of course very sad. As a President/Owner of a school in the US and also
Haitian-American. I also have a Daughter who is American, who is currently attending Medical school in the Dominican Republic. I hope the DR official prosecute those criminals/rapists seriously. I feel that this case should be handle carefully, because of the impact it can have on potential foreign and/or current students who attend school in the DR.
From: United States
Ricardolito I don't understand why does the parents need to be there murder is murder.dr should not need the parents to prosecute.that's the job of the court not the parents. I don't think the parents are poor if they are able to send them to dr for schooling
From: Dominican Republic, vieja Santo Domingo
Yes ,,it is very strange here but to give you an example, I have had my home here in the capital broken into when I have been away , and two times I have had to go the police office and sign papers that I want to take action against the people the police say entered my house. On both occasions, at the first hearings the police did not attend court but I had to, If the family of this poor girl do not push for maximum punishment ,then the case may proceed differently . I do not know the reason for this .I grew up where the crown led the case against the offenders and in the USA, it is the DA office, but not here and the family of the victim only appeared to give evidence or prior to sentancing .
It is why I have not been blaming the judges in general but the actual processes here . I think the processes are not even .

When murder and rape occured in this country it is a serius crime that would give these guys no less than 30 years in prison. Dominican are not playing game when it comes about these types crimes. Drugs smuggler have a lot money to bribe judges and DA agents, but these four guys are poor F. and they will be prosecute it, especially because it was against a woman no matter where she from. Remember what happen in Santiago court were the prosecutor did not release a prisoner after being let go free by the judge after pleading guilty of murding his ex-wfie in front of his kids. If they had only rob her the case would it been different but because the raped her murder and stealed her money it is another case. three different crimes were commited by these scums of the earth.

If there is any kind of justice in the DR this horrific tragic murder must not go unpunished. Nobody I mean NOBODY in any civilized society should be a victim of such a brutal act of inhumanity.
I wish I was part of this homicide investigation I won't stop until all are arrested and brought to justice.
My heart felt condolences to the VICTIM and Family of this case. "A crime against one is a crime against all.
JUSTICE MUST BE SERVED.

Some questions. ...
What percentage of judges are female in the dr?
Is it certain that only four were involved in the murder?
Will dr legal documents be made available in french or creole or xwill the family have to pay an approved legal translator for the services?
Why was the student searching for a place on her own?
How did the four 'real estate brokers get to know her?
Who are all the families involved?
Ultimately many saddened hearts by at least five families, their relatives and the communities ... and the loss of a family for the murdered girl herself. ....
From: Canada
They say the mayor of new york cleaned up the city graffitti and broken windows and garbage and the crime rate dropped. ... murders too it is presumed. ... but this will not bring back the student. ..

absolutely right, Ricardolito. in a place like the USA, criminal cases are a violation against the state, not the individual. that is why, for example, if a guy beats his wife, and the police show up, she cannot simply state that she does not want him arrested, and they leave. she has no choice in the matter. as far as jurisprudence is concerned, the guy has assaulted the state, not the individual. similarly, it is not like the DR, where you can kill a guy, and buy your way out of jail by restitution money. murder is a felony against the state, and it cannot be expunged by a civil settlement.

Why every time you post it's from the DR which in it's self speaks volumes.
I also bet in Cuba there is no crime to include FREEDOM of speech, press, religion, to assemble, protest, object, free interprize, and the big one bear and own firearms....where breaking any one of these laws one could pay with your life or life in a Cuban prison which is the same.
