Santo Domingo.- Sunday night when the clock struck 11:15:28 p.m., five Dominican youngsters jumped with joy from setting a new a Guinness record.

For 240 hours and 28 seconds they read aloud continuously to surpass the previous record set by six students from Florida’s Miami Dade College.

Randolfo Ariostto Jiménez, Carlos Jose Reyes, Cristian Rodriguez, Jose Manuel Bueno and Martha Esther Madera, from northwestern Valverde province.

The esplanade of the Youth Ministry, which organized the event, last night became a joyous celebration with applause, smiles and cheering.

The new record was set while Ariostto read one  professor Juan Bosch works. The group’s effort included the reading of more than 5,000 pages of the late ex-president’s and prolific writer’s texts.

I hate how people complain about these things that we should have gotten the 4% for education true, but then when we see people doing something good then we complain about it. Come on and Jimmy go a way. Your just angry most people in Haiti don't know how to read.

Just curious - since the fine journalism taken to report this story didn't mention: Were the Guinness people actually there to witness it? If they weren't, they didn't get the record no matter what they did.

And now they are practiced in how to fillibuster. They can all be congresspeople.

From: Dominican Republic, I dislike all politicians and their afiliated parties... "I simply say it AS IT IS!!"
Well, that's the kind of group of ppl we need to protest against all the irregularities going in our country. Vociferous and energetic yound blood who can tear down any wall of ignorance blocking their way. Go read Mr. Fernandez and his cronies their miranda rights. Go read Mr. Mejia (illiterate pumpkin head) and his cronies their miranda rights. Actually read it to the whole government.
