Santo Domingo.- Ex minister of Education Melanio Paredes yesterday denied committing the millions of dollars in irregularities uncovered in the bankrupt Teachers Health Insurance (Semma) and accused the Accounts Chamber of “maliciously manipulating” the audit in which he figures as responsible for the scandal.

After calling the audit a “legal mockery,” Paredes said of the audit’s 43 irregularities found, 40 occurred before his tenure in Education and that he had requested in June 2009.

He said that during his tenure he didn’t take any unilateral measures, and instead all had the unrestricted support of all of the Dominican Teachers Association’s (ADP) representatives.
