SANTO DOMINGO..- The National District Office of the Prosecutor Thursday requested five years in prison for Sobeida Felix, 20 years for her ex husband Eddy Brito, Mary Peláez, Sammy Dauhajre, Juan J. Fernandez Ibarra and Ivanovich Smester, in the country’s biggest money laundering case ever.
It also asked the First Collegiate Court to sentence Madeline Bernard and Adolfina (Dolphy) Peláez to 10 years in prison, fines of 200 minimum wages each and impediment from leaving the country.
The request to judges Gisselle Méndez, July Tamariz and Tania Yunes also includes the confiscation of nearly 80 real estate and other properties valued at RD$910.0 million.
Assistant DAs Wendy Lora, Agustín de la Cruz, Milcíades Guzmán and Ybo René Sanchez asked the judges to find the defendants guilty of conspiracy and money laundering. They also requested fines of 200 minimum wages each against Brito, Mary Peláez, Dauhajre, Smester and Fernandez Ibarra, and that they remain in prison
Against Felix, who entered plea bargaining, the prosecution requested five years in prison and a fine of 50 minimum wages. The Puerto Rican drug trafficker Jose Figueroa Agosto’s paramour confessed her part in the ring which laundered money and cooperated with the investigation.
Closing arguments
The prosecution said that 39 days after his escape from a jail in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, Figueroa obtained a second identity in the country, where the defendants joined his criminal actions, and that the irrefutable evidence proves that without their participation it would’ve been impossible to launder so many millions of dollars.
The prosecutors said the purchase of luxury vehicles, sumptuous apartments, villas and lots, as well as the dividends from their criminal activities had been verified, and noted that another court hears the case of Figueroa’s alleged hired killers.
The court set 9 a.m. Wednesday the hearing for the defense’s closing arguments.

just maybe then the DR. justice system can join the REAL WORLDS JUSTICE SYSTEMS..
BRING SOME KIND OF RESPECT TO THE DR.
Few other things we need to watch closely:
1. Will the Judge give them a fair penalties for 5 years , 20 years sentence?
2. Even they will serve in the jail as the Judge sentence them , will they get better treatment as the DR's case that always occurs? OR like the regular inmates?
3. What kind of Probations they may have?
Prosecutor wants one thing, but can the Justice system gives them the same thing?
2nd thing will be that they will be allowed to leave the prison on the weekends with a guard to go to either see their family, have a weekend off at their Casa de Campo villa or other private places on the beach and then will return to prison on the following Mondays.
This might not be fair but is normal in the D.R. whether you like it or not just like all the politics in the gov't driving Mercedes, Porsches, Lamo's, Ferraris, etc....paid for by the Gov't money borrowed from the IMF!!!!
