Santo Domingo.- The Senate asked the airports management company (Aerodom) on Tuesday to reimburse around US$75 million from the US$1.30 fee charged to travelers, affirming that it violates the contract to operate the air terminals.

Defense and National Security Commission vice president Adriano Sanchez said at 11 a.m. today Airports Commission president Arístides Fernandez Zucco will be asked why Aerodom was allowed to keep the fee without congressional approval.

Interviewed by news source listin.com.do in the Senate, Sanchez said once Fernandez Zucco’s decision was implemented, the Airports Department stopped receiving the fee charged to 57.9 million passengers, or US$75.3 million. “The Airports Commission didn’t have the right to make that decision, according to the Constitution itself.”

“When we reviewed the Airport Security law we discovered that in 2004 the collection of around 1.3 dollars per passenger was given to Aerodom. That was done by the Airports Department. No agency has the right to transfer tax collection to a private company,” the Elías Piña legislator said.

He added that the Commission will question Fernandez Zucco today and then continue with all the other people involved.

Someone please bring "El Jefe" back....By comparison, I would rather have ONE corrupt person than mulitple ones....with ONE, at least the prevailing ego-centrism/machismo would not allow anyone else to get over on him.

Has any scandal ever been thoroughly investigated and the guilty convicted of a crime?

Has anyone ever been punished? Has anyone convicted not been pardoned?

It would be interesting to see how much money was wasted/stolen doing these investigations.

They probably yield great benefits to the investigators.
