Santo Domingo.- A man who repelled an attempted holdup by shooting and killing one of the alleged attackers when he was walking his dog Thursday morning has been identified as Gabriel Lipovetsky, an Israeli security expert.
Lipovetsky was slightly injured when he was shot by one the robbers, Pablo Dionisio Valdez, 22, who reportedly tried to flee on a motorcycle with his accomplice, but fell off after being shot twice by the holdup victim.
The incident occurred in the sector Quisqueya near the busy intersection at Carmen Mendoza street and 27 de Febrero avenue around 7 a.m., when Valdez and the other man who fled on the motorcycle allegedly tried to assault Lipovetsky, who despite being wounded, fired several times and hit the attacker.

If you kill somebody in DR, even in self defense you will quickly learn a few things:
1. You might go to jail anyway, until police "investigates" the shooting.
2. The police might impound your gun, for "investigative purposes" and IF you get it back, it will be missing the ammo and magazines.
3. The family of the deceased might sue you, and collect thousands of pesos from you, even if they were trying to kill you.
This incident is no way over yet, Mr. Lipovetsky will soon learn.

Regrettably ,,generoso is correct and as the Israeli shot the villain as he was excaping ,,it is hard to put up a case for self defence ...If the police had shot both men the matter would go no further .

Hand guns have only one primary purpose. ... to kill another human being. ... if the robber has a gun he gambles his life everytime .... self defence is a clean conscience sleep at night choice. ..

AC,
I don't often agree with your points of you, but this time you are right on.
These guys probably couldn't shoot a gallina 25 ft away, much less 100 yds or one mile away. Pedestrian guns just don't have that kind of requisite accuracy. 6000 ft or 20000 (four miles!!!) ft away-are they drinking too much Brugal or mamajuana or are they smoking some heavy duty weed? I say these guys have never been out on the range and likely don't really know what they are talking about.

Darn ! Only one dead.....
Since most handgun self defense shootings happen within 3-10 feet, this case where the robbery victim shot back assuming using his Israeli security issue handgun [glock / Jericho] typical 9mm or 40mm round.
Let's hope the 9mm was a 147 gr. JHP or a 40 cal 165 gr. JHP for the splat effect, good thing being one who is a good shot will use shot placement and shot less.
Let's hope the DR Police will examine the entrance and exit wounds, recover the robbers weapon, talk to witnesses then release the victim, give him a medal and hire him as an expert firearm range master.
Basta
"That 22 mag. at 6000 ft. range" gotcha ? Are you kidding me !
At the 3-15 ft. distance I mention I won't argue the penetration or that wonderful zig-zag effect [goes in here...then trying to repair multiple organ wounds] the 22 mag. has on entree in the chest cavity at close range.
