Santo Domingo.- The National Police Wednesday night said Crismeidi Guerrero, being held with her sister Erika, in connection with the disappearance of the businesswoman Wilma Martinez, had confessed to taking part in her murder.
In a statement, it said Guerrero led police investigators to a deserted location five kilometers north of El Seibo on the highway Miches, where human bones without the skull were found, which Crismeidi said were of the missing person.
She said the head had been severed and then given to an individual who allegedly paid million pesos.
Martinez was missing since July 8 after leaving her residence in Higüey, in the company of three men and two women who appeared to be foreigners, in a white Nissan Infiniti SUV.

i cant decide who was mentality disturbed the people that killed her or the one that paid 1 million peso for her head. tough choice therem, but either way its a very sick way of how the story turned out unfortunately. at least they got the killer in their hand, hope he doesnt have millions around so he doesnt make permanent bail.

Drug dealer, prostitute or buyer and seller of used cars.
She came back from Switzerland with money so how did she get it?

Dr justice will probably find out why but the real criminals the politicainas that sold the DR to the Drug Lords are the real criminals.

Ricardolito - The first step in solving a problem is to acknowledge that the problem does, indeed exist. Your posts often appear as apologetic and in denial. There is no legitimate excuse for the mess that this country is in except for:
Corruption,
Incompetence,
Nepotism,
Perverted sense of right and wrong in the public space,
Leading to:
Poverty,
Ignorance,
Hunger,
Malnutrition,
Overcrowding,
Illness,

Those responsible must be arrested and brought to justice like...... "they were armed and refused to surrendered" the rest is history. Giving in to demands only serves to encourage more future kidnappings, once the cat is out of the bag.....the DR will be a point of almost no return.
On any kidnapping for ransom situation there is never any guarantees.
I say that unused ransom money should be used for reward money with added bonuses.
I'm against the death penalty but let's face it there are certain crimes it should apply....
this is one of them.
My deepest prayers to the victim her family and daughter who will grow up never meeting / knowing her mother.

Juan santo domingo .. I do not like generalisations that have a genesis from a single incident ..for that reason I always prefer to comment on an article here without taking the next step of saying these comments are applied to many more people or situations . In this particular case I only know what I have read here or in the papers and do not know why the kidnapping took place nor by whom..JimH seems to know much more but I do not know how .
Higuey has a history of kidnapping and ,unlike JimH ,I have not the slightest idea if this was drug related or not and I can see no benefit in speculating .

Very sad indeed. To me (my opinion onlyy), it appears that she was given a large sum of money by some European underground group (drug mafia) to go back home to the DR, as their agent/facilitator. She failed to do what she promised those badboys and paid with her life.
Ask yourself, how does a barrio girl go to Switzerland, "work" a few years and return back to the DR with a larger sum of money (appearing to be successful) and established herself as a "businesswoman". Someone set her up in a DR business as a front. Her real function back in the DR, was to work for them. She blew their/her money (as most barrio girls would) and didn't follow through on her end. She was murdered violently, to let others know, don't double cross the badboys in Europe who you made deals with !! Calling it as I see it.....
From: Dominican Republic
Ricardolito, I can accept that no single event should be used to generalize, however how many single events will it take for you to take the next step and acknowledge that we have serious problems here?
How many acts of corruption in government must take place before you are prepared to accept that the government is corrupt?
How many broken promises must take place before you are ready to accept that the government does not have any intentions of working for the people who pay their wages and fill their bank accounts?
How much BS will you accept from the mouth of this president before you can acknowledge that he is the puppet and not the puppeteer?
How much more can you take?

These kind of kidnapping crimes go on in Brazil, Argentina, Columbia, Chile, Japan, Thailand, etc. I'm not sure its fair to say this is an example of a failed state; more like what Ricordo said.."It's an example of a "Flawed" state.""
Why would someone's opinion mean any less or more just because they're writing from Haiti, USA, Europe, etc.?
One million pesos is something like $26,000, not $65,000.
Dominican rep. is relatively safe despite the horror stories we read everyday in the newspapers. in fact, for 10 million people on just two-thirds of an island, i would call it "very safe." Crime and murder is almost exclusively by "Association" and not "Random" like many people are led to believe.
The DR is a great, beautiful country with fantastic warm and friendly people. and despite all the horror stories people regal each other with, these are relatively isolated incidents taking place among people in specific cirlces.

And for the amount of people coming and going, i would hasten to say that its very safe. still, if you were to start running around with the wrong crowd, start delving into specific types of crime and other people related to specific types of crime, then as they say: "when you lie down with dogs, you wake up with fleas."
but for people whom are just going to work everyday, keeping their noses clean, and just doing the daily grind of life and work, almost nothing befalls on them like what we read here in the newspapers. crime is almost always a culprit of "Association."

Jim Harrington, Riosm, Gmiller, Juansantodomingo, etc. are all obviousily well read, intelligent, well traveled people. Still, its perplexing to me how anyone living and working here in this country can pick and choose isolated horror stories and then apply it to everything.
I work in a popular place on the beach in Cabarete, i get to meet a lot of Missionary and Peace Corps workers on the weekends. They're just kids--right out of college. They work and live in the most isolated, desolate, poorest of poor communities throughout the country. i find myself absolutely shocked, amazed, baffled, and pleasantly surprised by how many of them tell me how wonderful and kind dominicans and Haitians are in these unbelievably poorest of poor communities and shanty towns. i mean, it really takes me aback about how just amazingly generous people are. i would think these places would be crime ridden, crime infested. But it's not the case. infact, not even remotely. Its crazy but true: DR is safe.
