Santo Domingo.- On Thursday night news source SIN revealed a December 30, 2009, WikiLeaks cable from the United States Embassy in Dominican Republic, in which the diplomats suspect that Puerto Rican murder convict Jose Figueroa Agosto was allowed to escape, and stresses that society’s perception is that drug trafficking had infiltrated the justice system and the Police.
The cable has facts known by Dominican society and chronicles Figueroa’s drug trafficking and money laundering case almost entirely, but not the U.S. Embassy’s observations, sent to Washington by Christopher Lambert, then Commercial Attaché, who was the acting ambassador prior to Raul Yzaguirre’s arrival.
The cable’s final paragraph: 9. (SBU) COMMENT: The totality of the case of Figueroa-Sobeida-Mary and now Gonzalez, has been a public relations disaster for the police and judicial agencies, from the bungled (deliberately? ) first arrest attempt, until the release of Sobeida on bail and her disappearance, to the circus in press media which involves Peláez, and the possible complicity of the Justice Ministry when bringing to light the apparent cooperation by González with the authorities, even the involvement, it has been said, of at least two colonels of the unit antinarcotics in Gonzalez’s murder. From one incident to the other, the topic has reaffirmed the public’s perception that which the judicial sector, the Public Ministry and the police are plagued with the corruption of drug trafficking.
This has a healthy effect however, in creating an intense public pressure so that a detailed investigation on the part of legitimate authorities is carried out that could be in the identification, removal and perhaps even the prosecution of the corrupt authorities. The embassy will continue to follow up on this investigation and will report on its development. LAMBERT.

Again only a partial list of Figueroa's accomplices are being prosecuted, the "big fish" are reading this in the leisure of their jacuzzi, in their million dollar mansions in Casa de Campo.
Nothing goes on in the DR police that the #1 doesn't know about, that is a fact.
Another question is:
Figueroa Agosto was last heard off as being taken to the US because PR did not offer enough protection, in their maximum security air tight federal prison, that is another laughable spin to the real facts: Figueroa is and was a DEA informer, that went into business for himself, and Figueroa is actually in the USA, probably in the witness protection program, again, sitting in a rocking chair, and reading these news, over a cup of strong Puerto Rican coffee, in some little town in New Mexico.

Hey Jim how come the USA Marshalls never came to pick up Agosto when he was in jailed even after president Leonel signed his extradiction back to PR. The words on the street are that Agosto was a DEA mulls or covert agent. How come you are not critizising PR for allowing Agosto to scaped from a Maximum Security Prisson. That F.King PR ambassador Hans was part of the whole plot. Agosto was almost as big as Escobar but in the Caribbean. If you don't like this country leave and leave us alone. There is absolutely nothing new here in this so called leak ...it has all been documented here in DT and the papers before .We all know that Figueroa escaped from a prison in a US territory , Puerto Rico and worked there and in the DR in the drug trade. In the DR , he paid people in the police force , the army and in some government departments to assist him and he had a gang of paid killers and a mistress or two . He was also befriended by the US ambassador He was never close to capture in the DR ,but his lover was and she was foolishly given bail and left the DR .from evidence found in the car and from several apartments and houses owned by Figueroa and cronies, much was found out about Figueroa and people were murdered when they were likely to assist investigations.
Finally he was recaptured in Puerto Rico and now he and his mob are on trial ,,but as generoso correctly says, the big fish who assisted him and even some government murderers have still not been charged . Nothing new.
