Santo Domingo. The sisters Crismeri and Erika Guerrero narrated to investigators that they strangled the Higüey businesswoman Wilma Teresa Martinez the same day they kidnapped her, and dumped her body in scrubs along the Miches-El Seibo highway (east).
They said they convinced their victim that a witch of the zone would rid her of spells cast against her and that she must remain kneeling and with her feet and hands tied for one hour, before starting the exorcism to cast out the evil spirits from her.
It was then, they said, that they placed a plastic bag over her and strangled her.
Yesterday, the Police arrested Sabino Ramos and Erika’s husband, Ramon Báez, whom according to the two sisters was the one who decapitated the victim.
After the murder they mounted the body in a SUV but prior to dumping it, burned it to keep it from smelling. They said the murder was to steal US$80,000 allegedly in the victim’s possession.
Chilling tale
Crismeri Castillo, who has a police record, said she paid Ramon Sabino RD$16,000 two days later to sever the head, to prevent it from being recognized if found.

Definitely "death penalty" material here.....If the victim has any family, I'm sure vendetta will be the order of the day....

Yesterday ,Jim Harrington was telling us all that it was the work of drug gangs and the government was to blame and got very angry when caution was urged in his remarks ...and of course his twin gmiller came in and produced his normal anti DR remarks .
Now it appears the poor womans husband is very rich and this is a kidnapping by two women from Higuey wanting quick money .
So where is the apology from JimH for misleading everyone with his pathetic tirade against the DR and saying it was all the work of drug gangs and of the Dominican government and the Dominican people ..I hope people can see JimH for what he is ...just an anti DR basher

What I said is below.
And no matter if this was drugs or ONLY a kidnapping it is indicative of the DR being a failed state.
Now I will ‘be happy’ if the people who orchestrated this horrific slaughter go to ‘real’ jail for the rest of their life. Time will tell.

I am totally dumbfounded. Crismeri and Erika Guerrero, who are these two women? What are their backgrounds and what evil would lead and provoke them or anyone to commit such a cold blooded, horrendous crime? I don't believe it was only and simply greed. It has to be something much deeper then that and for this reason, we need to gain greater insight to determine the motives behind the murder. It might just maybe help prevent similar acts from ever happening again.
From: Dominican Republic, vieja Santo Domingo
william there is a long history of kidnapping in Higuey and at present Higuey is undergoing quite a change with many people there profiting from the rapid development of Punta Cana and Bavaro which had no townships to start with The desire for quick money leads to killings in the DR very often

One can only imagine how the victim's money was earned.
For the love of money......money the root of all evil.
The idea of an innocent little girl will never have the chance to know her mother, as always the children always pay.
I say......give them both the death penalty......to rid them of their evil spirits.

@ gmiller261. No F'cking kidding! I knew it! The motive had to revolve around drugs, money or sex tapes. However, I am not convinced at all. Why did they not steal the money? Why so much hatred against this woman? That's what I don't get. This is a horrible crime, a HATE CRIME and a CRIME based on GREED? There is something else hidden, other than money. Hummm??? She appears to be a beautiful woman, so perhaps a history of jealousy persued her.

I don't believe the sister's story. The real story may never be known.....Don't think for one minute that Wilma was that stupid to kneel and be bound by these BOZOS. I would venture to say Crismeri, never held $16K pesos in her hand in her entire life ! If she did have $16K, she would have gone to the salon, buy a new cel, new perfume or maybe paid down on her "fiao" debt (highly doubtful). This story stinks. Who is so ignorant to think that there is no way to ID a headless corspe? I tell you this story stinks ! gmiller you are spot on, a failed state indeed.

I'll repeat what i said, the DR is safe.
Many people on this forum are obviously well read, intelligent, well traveled. Still, its perplexing to me how anyone living and working in this country can pick and choose isolated horror stories and then apply it to everything.
I work on the beach in Cabarete, i get to meet a lot of Missionary and Peace Corps workers on the weekends. They're just kids--right out of college. They work and live in the most isolated, desolate, poorest of poor communities throughout the country. i find myself absolutely shocked, amazed, baffled, and pleasantly surprised by how many of them tell me how wonderful and kind dominicans and Haitians are in these unbelievably poorest of poor communities and shanty towns. i mean, it really takes me aback about how just amazingly generous people are in these poor communities. i would think these places would be crime ridden, infested. But it's not the case. not remotely. They're safe. Its crazy but true: DR is safe.

These kind of kidnapping crimes go on in Brazil, Argentina, Columbia, Chile, Japan, Thailand, etc. I'm not sure its fair to say this is an example of a failed state; more like what Ricordo said. "It's an example of a "Flawed" state.""
Why would someone's opinion mean any less or more just because they're writing from Haiti, USA, Europe, etc.?
Dominican rep. is relatively safe despite the horror stories we read every day in the newspapers. in fact, for 10 million people on just two-thirds of an island, i would call it "very safe." Crime and murder is almost exclusively by "Association" and not "Random" like many people are led to believe.
The DR is a great, beautiful country with fantastic warm and friendly people. and despite all the horror stories people regal each other with, these are relatively isolated incidents taking place among people in specific circles.

....people from all walks of life--tourists, ex-pats, and locals. And for the amount of people coming and going, i would hasten to say that its very safe. still, if you were to start running around with the wrong crowd, start delving into specific types of crime and other people related to specific types of crime, then as they say: "when you lie down with dogs, you wake up with fleas."
but for people whom are just doing the normal daily grind--going to work every day, keeping their noses clean, and participating in everyday normal life, work, & family, almost nothing befalls on them like what we read here in the newspapers. crime is almost always a culprit of "Association."
Again, i'm surrounded by people from all walks of life, and almost nothing is happening here on the scale of what you have going on in places like Mexico and Columbia, Brazil, and Venezuela.
