THE NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER SAID T.S. IRENE COULD IMPACT DOMINICAN REPUBLIC AS EARLY AS MONDAY NIGHT

MIAMI - US forecasters on Saturday said Tropical Storm Irene formed east of the Caribbean's Leeward Islands and was expected to strike the Dominican Republic as a hurricane early next week.

The Atlantic hurricane season’s 9th named storm is packing winds of almost 80 kilometers per hour (50 miles) and was located about 190 miles east of Dominica, the US National Hurricane Center said in its 2300 GMT advisory.

The storm was moving westwards at 22 miles per hour.

Oddly enough...talking of being prepared...I have now called my wife and 3 other people I know who live in and around La Romana...none no anything about this storm...think I am joking. Shows how well they get the message out here. Pehaps they should interupt the novelas with a ticker going across the bottom of the screen. It is no wonder why so many perish down here with a storm.
