Santo Domingo. - Interior and Police Minister Jose Ramon Fadul on Thursday blamed the recent spate of murders and other criminal actions on the approach of August 16, when the President customarily makes substitutions in Government agencies, including the National Police.
“We are very concerned and it’s even regrettable, on what occurs, although for this date, statistically, there are variables that always appear as such,” the official said.
“There is a concern, and the Chief of Police is personally initiating those investigations, to see how we proceed to confront that wave which has been unleashed and that it's in society that we cannot deny,” the Interior and Police minister said.
He addied that “one isn’t a little gold nugget, there are people who adverse us or sympathize with us.”

their are more murders in the dr just this past 6 months then in new york last year for the whole year.
new york broke a record that they have taken for the past 100 years with only 536 murders for the year.
guess they have a real police dept. over there in new york???
funny though they can find the drug dealers every f***ing day to go to their location to pick up their payoffs?

"Substitutions" - 'We are very concerned and it’s even regrettable, on what occurs, although for this date, statistically, there are variables that always appear as such'
One can only hope it made a lot more sense in Spanish, though you can see how he could obtain high governmental position with statements like that.. So who is getting bumped off, runner ups for the subsitiution list? Or is this the last chance for those in office to get away with murder?
Does anyone understand this?

juanB - the funny thing is that this wasn't a translation problem from Spanish to English, thats actually what he said lol . This statement reminded me of the Palin 2008 interview with Katie Couric.
From: Dominican Republic
- Interior and Police Minister Jose Ramon Fadul is afraid he will be sacked on August 16, when the President customarily changes many bosses in Government agencies, including the National Police, and that is why there are so many murders. (Is this a threat, or what?
He essentially says, we will go on killing if the president sacks me.)
We are very worried and sad about the wave of murders, but until now we are very unsure, and will remain unsure.” the official said.
We are a little bit worried about the spate of murders, and I am looking into how to go on investigating the wave, that is there, and I cannot say (any more) that it is not there” the Interior and Police minister said.
He added that he isn’t a little gold nugget, not everybody agrees with (the police), many hate us, some love us.

I see that racist and supramacist never miss a chance to promote their hate towards Dominicans. is amazing how much we stay in their mind on daily basis.

What I hear from this is that people want it to look like we have more problems before these substitutions take place so they look like they are warranted. We all know its more like you have had enough time in your position to rob the public now we move you so if anything looks out of place in the future we wont know who to really blame since every year we move you around.
We need to do better and remove everyone starting with LF and start over.

During my recent visit outside teh tourist areas I saw no traffic control officers, no police cars, no police presence period. Is this because they are waiting funding before they appear on the street again. Puerto Plata is infested with drug smugglers and drug dealers and thieves, street crime is rampant. Much money appeared in the hands of a few street level people who have no jobs, no business and no one investigate them. The back streets in most towns are full of street thugs who prey on Dominicans and no one seems to care. Recently a female friend recently was robbed by two men waiting at the destination after the cab driver made a phone call and the police were to Busy to take a report? You will lose the country and become another Mexico all because fo a lack of Police funding.

It is incredible what a Dominican official will say without the least amount of embarrassment.
"I am sorry to say, but it is just killing season." Real mature.
