Santo Domingo.- Cardinal Nicolas de Jesus Lopez Rodriguez on Wednesday urged the media owners to control their publications to help the population receive a better content and prevent negative influences.

Speaking in a mass in the Cathedral to launch the Foundation “In favor of the good thing” supported by the Santo Domingo Archdioceses and the Family and Life Episcopal Vicariate to boslter and recognize the values in the social media, the prelate said a “self control” by the owners would be ideal. “The ideal would be that each media proprietor imposes self control on what their companies publish or project.”

“What’s certain is that we need to clean up the communicational atmosphere of so much quackery, vulgarity, pornography and lies, which in nothing benefit our country, but particularly our beloved children and youngsters.”

Lopez requested legislation which regulates the quality of the media and a national agreement to raise the quality of the content.

Foundation

Among the foundation’s objectives are to promote and provide follow up and monitoring of the contents and the manner in which the media serve; to encourage dialogue, to journalistically identify, heighten and award the protagonists of wholesome culture in social communication and to stimulate and motor the creation of updates of agreements.
