Santiago.- President Leonel Fernandez said that the of types of crimes which occurred recently in the central cities Santiago and Jarabacoa leads people to believe that there are links to Mexican drug cartels in the country, while National Drugs Control Agency chief Rolando Rosado revealed that it’s the Sinaloa Cartel.
Fernandez, speaking in the “Civic Encounter for Security” held Saturday in Santiago, said that the execution of three Colombians and a Venezuelan in that city and the decapitation of a Dominican in Jarabacoa are actions of groups which belong to those organizations.
For Rosado, the Sinaloa Cartel is helped by groups of Dominican criminals centered in the Cibao zone to acquire chemicals used to make narcotics, supervise its drug trafficking activities and in contract killings. “They are groups in the Cibao zone which the Mexican cartels have contracted to put them at their service and of course their activities extend to the entire national territory. We had noticed it because we have dismantled some of those structures and have charged them.”
He said controls have been placed on the transactions with chemicals with ephedrine and pseudoephedrine, used in the pharmaceutical industry, but are also the same components used to make narcotics.
The DNCD chief affirmed the Mexican cartels’ violence is expressed in the contract killings, in addition to that several narcotics traffickers linked to those cartels have been arrested. “The seal of the murders for hire shows that the Mexican cartels are here, more than the Colombians. They don’t have to physically be present to make sure their instructions are complied with, but they are helped by local groups. That’s what they’ve been doing, essentially in the zone of Cibao.”
Rosado had confirmed a report published by newspaper El Dia July 17 on the presence of cells of the bloody Sinaloa cartel, headed by Joaquin Guzmán Loera (El Chapo Guzmán).

i am should that if they start posting US 5000 reward leading to capture of know or unknown criminal, these problem will be done over a period of months....how many out there want 5000 dollar for snitching on these SOB. after all is a 48442 square kilometer..you cant hide here

Ask the US for help is like asking Figueroa Agosto to help. The US has done what Fernandez has done: allowed the situation to get out of control. Now, Fernandez is concerned? Now, that the PLD faces a loss? Now, why now? We here at this site have been writing about the loss of quality of life for some time? Fernandez has deliberately allowed the criminal element of the world to feel welcome in my country. He is a snake and where else does his personal wealth come from? He must go. He is a Fariseo!!!!

Look at the situation in Puerto Rico and the failuers of all US agencies to do anything other than to saturate PR with drugs. The US is the WHALE and they use drugs to contrtol populations. The US will never be able to stop the flow because the average US citizen has a tremendous hunger for drugs. We should never allow the US to intervene.

If the DR lets the US in 100%, the end of DR as a base of operation is done in 1 year.
But the DR will have to make the hard choices of convicting and jailing their own. Which other countries wouldn't do.
BTW, if the US was broke the rest of the world would be dead.

Get real!
The DR just needs leaders with a pair of balls to stop the crime. DR is an island for heaven's sake, even with Haiti, they should be able to control crime if they did it right... just that they don't do it right and it's no in the best interest of many politicians for it to be right.

The government can say all it wants against crime and criminal elements. Yet, the easy gains provided to officials from scum makes any organized effort to halt the criminal cancer seem like the futile try of stopping the downhill roll of a boulder.
The criminals have officials in their pockets, The officals act as to paraphrase Oscar Wilde, we can resist everything except temptation. The gov't blowhards can talk all they want against crime as it is politically advantageous. However, they lack the will or morals to do something about it.

I really like the idea of crime stopper hot line with a cash reward leading to the conviction. The rats would start scrambling starting form the top. I still am in awe that this small country and army has 99 Generals. What do they command in a country with 9 tanks? Every single Dominican can tell you who is a criminal and where they live. Every single one can point out the gangs and drug dealers to the police but they fear them more than the drug dealers. When most are corrupt and do not want to risk losing the extra money. Start looking at what the Policeman drives and his casa then do the math with his salary.

the production of narcotics through chemicals is a great problem world wide but I would like to see the death penalty introduced for drug offences as in Malaysia and Singapore
