MIAMI. - The Atlantic hurricane season’s 15th tropical storm has formed today in the eastern Atlantic, and advances towards the Lesser Antilles and could strengthen in the next 24 hours, said the U.S. National Hurricane Center.

The newly formed system, if it remains on the predicted path, will be the third named storm to affect the country in the last few weeks, after hurricanes Maria and Irene before that.

In its bulletin Wednesday of 9 a.m. GMT, the NHC said Tropical Storm Ophelia is 2,205 kilometers east of the Lesser Antilles and moves west at 20 kilometers per hour.

T.S. Ophelia, whose maximum sustained winds are 75 kilometers per hour, is expected to maintain that course during the next 48 hours, adds the National Hurricane Center.
