Santo Domingo.- Three foreigners, including 10 year old girl, were found dead in Sosua, northern Puerto Plata province, in what Police say was a murder-suicide.
The bodies of the victims were found in the residencial Casa Linda, in Sosua, where reportedly the German man was found hanging, and the Venezuelan woman and her daughter had sings of strangulation.
The authorities said it was a murder suicide, but there’s been no official statement.
The German reportedly also shot his wife several times, and then his daughter, a dog and a cat.

This was a MURDER-SUICIDE in the private home of a family not. Nothing to do with tourists or tourism. It is still very sad but has nothing to do with the Dominican Republic. This happens in EVERY country. So sorry to hear of this news.

It is great!
Especially with the clean up of the streets going on now. Feel safer there now.
I was there in July and had another great time. Went to Puerto Plata on a Sunday and really enjoyed it. The cafeteria at La Sirena has the best habichuela and roast pork I have ever tasted, LOL.
Going back in October for another couple weeks. I hope to finally make it to Santiago - like I keep saying I am going to do, LMAO

The incident was a private matter within the family and had no dealings with tourism, the Dominican or the subdivision. Nor was this a security issue as he was a resident and not an outside intruder. Casa Linda has issued a short press release in which can be viewed here below:

I'm a homeowner in neighborhood where this event took place. The man who committed this crime was the home-owner of the residence (not a tourist) and also the husband and father of the family he murdered due to financial problems. This was a domestic situation that had nothing to do with the overall security of the community or the DR as a whole. It's very unfortunate, and my prayers go out to them.

1-The photo in the article is of the long ago closed hotel, not the private home where this occurred.
2- This is was a private family issue, in a private home that`s not for rent and has nothing to do with security, but a lot with the current worldwide economic crisis.
3- Security at Casa Linda is good, way too good in fact; I`ve rented there since 2004 and has never had any problems.
4- The Dominican Republic is far more secure than most other countries, there`s no terrorism, no guerillas, and most cases of violence against tourists are sex for pay or durg related.
5- People must show respect to a man that only left us with the impression that there`s little hope if any of us fall into sudden bankruptcy. Had there been a glimpse of hope in this mind that someone could`ve helped, he`d think it twice, don`t you think? START HELPING SOMEONE NOW.
