New York.- With a Spanish verse and a merengue beat is how the vocalist Karina Pasian will sing “America, The Beautiful, to help mark Sept. 11, when she was only 10 years old and the 2001 terrorist attacks rocked the world.

The New York Daily News reports that Pasian, a Dominican-American from Washington Heights, has been tapped to perform “America, The Beautiful” in Union Square on Sunday.

"I definitely want people to be moved by it, and get a feeling of joy," Pasian said. "Even though it was such a horrible event, [people] should still celebrate life and our beautiful country."

Pasian, who is 20, was in a piano lesson on the Upper West Side when her mother, like so many other parents did with their children on that fateful day, rushed to get her.

'Insulting" ?

What she is exercising is freedom of expression, joy ! The insult would be, not to let her sing.

This song should be the US (my) national anthem. It's beautiful.
I believe it is possible for her to perform it merengue style in an uplifting manner.
It is also possible to do it regaeton/rap style to a merengue beat and insult her nation.
I expect it is the former.
One must wait and see.

You are wrong. I would be just as offended if it was sung in any fashion except they way it is suppose to be sung. Too sing a verse in Spanish is more than insulting but offensive.

and just how is it ¨meant to be sung¨? i have seen numerous performers sing it, and they all have their own particular take on it. where is it written that there is an orthodox way in which it should be rendered?. besides, why should it offend you if a verse was to be sung in Spanish, allowing people who do not speak english to understand the lyrics?.

Certain songs should never be tampered with. It is the song of a nation. To sing it in Spanish is just an slap in the face of those who want to get rid of the criminals illegally crossing our borders and sucking off the teat on the productive American Taxpayer.

darn right. they should not be sucking off the teat of the productive American Taxpayer. they should be sucking off the ill gotten riches that your thieving idols on Wall Street managed to amass by fraud and deceitful strategies, THEN pay no taxes.

It's not the official anthem so breath. Do I think it's in poor taste? Yes. Insulting? No.

a very insightful remark, Cibaeno. the song is not the national anthem, so why all the paroxysms of disgust?i guess that since they are coming from anthonyc, they are mindless, anyway.

actually, DONT BE SILENT, anthonyc IS the biggest moron on the site. he is the idiot that advocated privatizing the military. only a guy with the brain of an ape would make such a stupid remark, but that is par for the course with this simpleton. it is yet to dawn on him that the government has to maintain overwhelming force, and cannot put it into the hands of civilians, or any fool can decide that he wants to be president, or dictator, and use his military force to depose the government. you need brains to figure that one out, and he has none.
