Excellent example for our youth to follow. And just think if a universal education system with good oversight and penalties for parents who don't send their children to school would produce? But with 2% of GDP, it's simply not possible.
I guess these Dominicans like to drink from the vitamin filled waters of enlightenment. Some people, however, don't think so. They claim all Dominicans want to do is listen to loud music, get drunk, and go whoring all the time.
There are many Dominican children who would, having better opportunities, do as these wonderful children have done: make our country proud with their commitment to an academic and life enriching example for all to follow.

Farthest Squirting of Milk from the Eye
This honor goes to Ilker Yilmaz of Turkey, who in 2004 squirted milk from his eye at a record-breaking distance of 9 feet, 2 inches. I don’t know how one squirts milk from one’s eye anyway, so I don’t really know if this is impressive or not. It’s just weird.
Largest Collection of Barf Bags
Now, this is impressive. Niek Vermeulen of the Netherlands has amassed a collection of 5568 airline sick bags. That’s an unusual thing to collect and those are rather hard to get ahold of — you can’t just pop down to the local Walmart to get one.
Largest Collection of ‘Do Not Disturb Signs’
Meet Jean-François Vernetti of Switzerland. He has collected 8888 different hotel ‘do not disturb’ signs. He looks like a happy chap. Do you think he and Niek Vermeulen are Facebook friends? I feel like they would really get along.

Your assumptions about my motives are just as inaccurate and misinformed as your statement about Australian Aborigines. Remind me - what happened to the Tainos? Australian Aborigines were almost extinct before British settlement. Their numbers and fortunes have increased exponentially since then. They were never enslaved, or forced to pay tributes, on threat of having their hands chopped off, or burned at the stake, as your ancestors did to the indigenous populations of this island.
So Australians don't accept foreigners? Maybe you should check how many immigrants to Australia have won the Australian of the Year award, and the government's multiculturalism policies.

Rock and Roll, R&B, Pop.. nothing any Australian invented!!! Dominicans on the other hand invented Merengue, Bachata, and although it is more associated with Puerto Rico, the father of Salsa "Johny Pacheco" is a Dominican! These rhythms are known throughout the world, especially the Latin based world. Roy you FREAKING IDIOT,
You keep missing the point. The point is that a DOMINICAN was the one who put the mixture together of the Cuban rhythm to create it's own genre which today is today known as salsa. I am not denying that it was originally Cuban, nor I ever did if you comprehend my posts.
As for aliases.. now I am thinking that you and stillhere are the same person.
My point is that Dominicans have created or contributed to create a new music genres
Australians cannot say that they have invented a genre that is internationally known.
By the way the African Slaves that invented the blues (from where Rock and Roll was then born) though they were slaves, they were AMERICANS you BUNCH of IDIOTS! Like Salsa was born from other music, so was Rock and Roll, but they it was still AMERICANS who invented it!

lovingit, when it comes to music, you are way, way out of your depth, so I suggest to hang on to your water-wings and dog-paddle back to the edge of the pool, and head for the kiddie-pool.
The reality is, the Dominican Republic has never "invented" any music genera. As Stillhere tried to explain, musical styles evolve over time from a range of influences, they are not invented.
Still if you want to hear something distinctly Australian, listen to Aboriginal Corroboree music, far more distinctive than anything in the Dominican Republic. This has been blended with western music too, by bands like Yothu Yindi. Not good music in my opinion, but neither is Bachata or Merengue.
The relevant thing here is, Dominican vs Australian contribution to music. Your opinion and mine are irrelevant here. The only definitive measure is the number of world-wide hits. In that regard, the Dominican Republic does not even come close to Australia.

stillhere,
I have to disagree with you about the extent of English-speaking music's influence on Australian music. One of the world's most distinctive and famous architectural works, the Sydney Opera House, and the Australian Opera Company are definitely world-class. Yet most opera is not sung in English.
I particularly like Australian orchestra's interpretation of the great Russian composers, Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky etc.
My town, Melbourne, has a thriving live Latin music scene, with more Salsa (Colombian), Samba (Brazilian), Reggae (Jamaican), etc bands than the entire Dominican Republic. No Bachata to my knowledge, but no loss. Capoeira (Brazilian) groups are springing up everywhere too.

Heck here is some help, a Bachata in Portuguese:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wrzSPUY11XELook, and you'll even find it in non Latin countries too, such as Russia, Japan, Germany, etc. One of my friends from Poland actually told me that one of Aventura's Bachata was a great hit over there, he though being Polish (like English speakers see my post) was not really able to differentiate the Latin rhythm so he couldn't really associate it with DR back then (I explained that on my post Written by: lovingit, 20 Jan 2012 5:13 PM) but when I played once, he was like OMG, that was a hit in Poland, and now he could tell the difference between Latin rhythms (Salsa, Mambo, Bachata, Merengue, Mexican styles, etc)

Australia has many great internationally known actors, but internationally known musicians? not so much, and especially not any internationally known music genres that makes you go "Ah, Australian music" whether the artist is known or not.

I say leave indigenous music out because we are talking about internationally known music genres (Dumb as$) but you know, I am wasting my time, you seem to have extreme difficulty in comprehending what you read, especially since I clearly stated that as well as other things I have written here on previous posts. I am not sure if its possible to paint the picture clearer than what I already have. Your lack of comprehension is living proof that Australians do have some of the lowest average IQs in the world... there are a lot of smart Australians out there, but you my friend, fall within the average of the low IQs, either that, or your mom dropped you on your head as a baby

Lovin-git,
I do not disagree with you due to any failure in comprehension on my behalf. I disagree because you are simply wrong. You made a generalization criticizing Australian intelligence and behavior, thus:
"Australia, a country known for obnoxious, beer drinking idiots"
In reality and worldwide reputation, the opposite is the case, and I made a substantial (but incomplete) list of areas where Australians are smarter, outperform and behave better than Dominicans. You have not managed to disprove a single item on the list.
It seems to me your ignorance, prejudice and misplaced arrogance is based on the fact you have never lived anywhere outside the Dominican Republic or some Dominican Diaspora in USA. I doubt you have ever been to Australia, or Brazil which you claim knowledge of.
The point of my original comment was that the attention given to this silly Guinness Book of Records stunt shows how desperate Dominicans are to delude themselves they have a smart country.

nd now he could tell the difference between Latin rhythms (Salsa, Mambo, Bachata, Merengue, Mexican styles, etc)
lovingit, bachata is NOT a latin rhythm. i have been dancing the same three step beat since i was a child. i will have to agree with Roy that it might be an evolutionary genre here, but it has been around before the wheel. similarly, morir sonando is not a Dominican invention. every country has a version of orange julius. similarly, sancocho is not Dominican. it is just a name they give to a hearty soup, which every country on earth has.

Dready asks the difference between Latin rhythms (Salsa and Bachata amongst others).
Leaving aside the historic or technical aspects, and just considering the aesthetic,
Salsa is performed, listened to, danced to and appreciated by the discerning and the talented all over the world.
Bachata is for musically unsophisticated Dominicans and sycophantic tourists only.

Dready & Lovin-git,
regarding Bachata, it is not a genera. At best, it is a sub-sub-set of the Latin Genera. Real Genra (like rock, calssical or jazz) have many styles, rhythms, feels, arrangements and harmonic structures within them. Whereas with Bachata, every song looks, sounds and feels the same. Calling it a Genera would be like calling Chuck Berry a Genera.
Still many rock legends have done covers of Chuck Berry songs. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Shakira, Santana, Bob Marley or Julio Iglesias have ever done an Aventura cover.
From: United States
i know that this is going to make people mad, but Aventura has never made anything worth covering. there are bacahta songs which i really like, and , when they are played, i sit up, and pay attention. i am yet to hear anything from these guys which i would consider to be worthwhile art. i think the word is ¨mediocrity¨.

Thank you for the link
Bachata in Portuguese:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wrzSPUY11XEIf Dominicans could arrange and play like the Brazilians on that clip, I'd even listen to it.
I will grant that the song had some Bachata elements in it, but it also had elements never found in authentic Bachata including:
1) Standard kit drums
2) A slow-triplet accent
3) Tight brass accents
4) Snare-drum accent on 4 on each bar
5) Occasional 3-and accents
6) A long 16ths feel section with syncopated slap-pob bass accents (opposite of Bachata)
The overall feel was more like Latin Rock - nothing like the sterile, effeminate elevator music by Aventura.
The beach was definitely not Dominican - no litter.

I have already stated my ties to the Dominican Republic but I don't expect you to remember, it was at least a day ago. Dominican cheep booze is of no interest since I don't drink, and as far as exploitation off the local populace, I leave that to the experts - other Dominicans.
My ancestors did not enslave, exploit or kill any Aborigines, other than in self defense. In fact it was British colonization that saved them from extinction.

You then go into Music, Sports, etc. Australians are like monkeys that all they do mimic the U.S. and the UK with music, shows, etc. What do you guys listen to and your artists play? Rock and Roll, R&B, Pop.. nothing any Australian invented!!! The only things that comes to mind (if you are English speaking) when it comes to Australian musicians is AC/DC, and as I said, they play music stolen from other countries.
Dominicans on the other hand invented Merengue, Bachata, and although it is more associated with Puerto Rico, the father of Salsa "Johny Pacheco" is a Dominican! These rhythms are known throughout the world, especially the Latin based world. (Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian) Latin based people anywhere in the world that hears a Bachata or Merengue undoubtedly associate it with DR. English speakers not as much because they cannot differentiate (without prior knowledge) between any rhythmic based Latin music.
What music makes anyone think of Australia?
Prove me wrong with examples if you can. Otherwise prove me right with more insults and grey-outs.
Oh My.. you went ahead and re-posted your long list of garbage even though they have nothing to do with IQ as I explained earlier... you really are a DUMB FU^K!!!!!

From: Australia
Dominican music? When Pacheco was 11, his family moved to New York City."
Roy - which is why I mentioned that the music is probably more associated with Puerto Rico, but I guess you can read, but not comprehend... the point is that a Dominican combined the rhythms of Cuba, added a mix, and made it into it's own genre.
"About as Dominican as the American band, Aventura!"
Roy - Is still Bachata!!!, a Dominican music and that is what comes to people's mind when they hear it (DR) ,unlike AC/DC who played Rock & Roll, an U.S based genre.
Answer the question, what music makes you think of Australia? NONE you bozo!
"Salsa is a mixture of African and Spanish music, filtered through the musical history of Cuba, and adapted by Latin jazz and Latin popular musicians for Latino populations, especially Puerto Ricans with diverse musical tastes."
Dominican?
"..salsa is and always had been Cuban Music."
says who?
Johnny Pacheco
Ha ha ha!
But even that came from Blues music... To say anyone came up with the a original style is just CRAP.... Unless it was you as a caveman danging on a log.... mmmm
Like Salsa was born from other music, so was Rock and Roll, but they it was still AMERICANS who invented it!
knock knock.. Do you have any gray matter? or do you two have two little cockroaches playing ping pong in your heads?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Genealogy_cuban_music.png
Yes Australia was a British colony and the only language is English... So it musical influences are English speaking Countries... and only being 200 hundred odd years old compared to the 400 odd of here... and the DR music influences are Spanish speaking countries... Right???
. and the DR music influences are Spanish speaking countries... Right???
unless you add in the current rave, reggaeton, whose roots come from Jamaica.
You know how to use the internet right? Look it up for yourself in youtube or so, Bachata in Portugal, Brazil. Do you need hand holding for everything?
Heck here is some help, a Bachata in Portuguese:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wrzSPUY11XE
Look, and you'll even find it in non Latin countries too, such as Russia, Japan, Germany, etc. One of my friends from Poland actually told me that one of Aventura's Bachata was a great hit over there, he though being Polish (like English speakers see my post) was not really able to differentiate the Latin rhythm so he couldn't really associate it with DR back then (I explained that on my post Written by: lovingit, 20 Jan 2012 5:13 PM) but when I played once, he was like OMG, that was a hit in Poland, and now he could tell the difference between Latin rhythms (Salsa, Mambo, Bachata, Merengue, Mexican styles, etc)
..cont
Oh, and leave the indigenous music out of this.. we are talking about internationally known genres.. there many other genres in DR like Mangulina, Palos, etc, that are just really known inside the DR, so pleeeeease don't even begin with those.
As for world wide hits coming out of Australia, could you please share the list? How may Grammy Award winners do you have?
You want to leave indigenous music out? Why? Oh that's right - there is no Dominican indigenous music, because there are no indigenous Dominicans - your ancestors exterminated then all hundreds of years ago!
Oh, so the popularity of Australian artists worldwide, as evidenced by massive record sales and charts don't count - its only Grammy's that matter.
Sad!
Did I ever say Bachata was big in Brazil and Portugal? No I just said it is a known genre that people know to associate with DR
You still avoid answering the questions about what worldwide hits came of Australia and/or what internationally known music genre makes you think of Australia? See, I know to give credit where it is deserved.

Please do Australians a favor and stop writing so that you could avoid further EMBARRASSMENT for your compatriots.
The point of my original comment was that the attention given to this silly Guinness Book of Records stunt shows how desperate Dominicans are to delude themselves they have a smart country.
lovingit, bachata is NOT a latin rhythm. i have been dancing the same three step beat since i was a child. i will have to agree with Roy that it might be an evolutionary genre here, but it has been around before the wheel. similarly, morir sonando is not a Dominican invention. every country has a version of orange julius. similarly, sancocho is not Dominican. it is just a name they give to a hearty soup, which every country on earth has.
Leaving aside the historic or technical aspects, and just considering the aesthetic,
Salsa is performed, listened to, danced to and appreciated by the discerning and the talented all over the world.
Bachata is for musically unsophisticated Dominicans and sycophantic tourists only.
Now getting back on back on The Topic of World Records, here is another Lie-onel is amining for:
Roy and Dread I think you fair-minded gentlemen might enjoy this?
“The Dominican Republic also LEADS in DIPLOMATIC WASTE”
The Purple ones have more paid diplomatic personal in the United States than all the six Central American countries. In fact The PLD has more than Brazil which has one of tenth largest economies in the worlds, with 21 times the population of the Dominican Republic and 177 times the land mass.
“SANTOD Sunday, Dominican Republic- The payroll list of Dominican Foreign Service is an example of why the country is world leader in misappropriation of public resources, with 1,163 staff members, of which 660 diplomatic and consular 503, many of which are authentic quotas of political cronyism and nepotism and equivalent in numbers to of all Central America.”

Maybe Leo feels that such a big worldwide diplomatic footprint will win this country permanent membership to the Security Council of the United Nations?
Australia's former Prime Minister, Chairman Crudd sent more delegates to the Copenhagen Convention on Climate Change than the UK or the USA. New Zealand conservationists were green with envy.
regarding Bachata, it is not a genera.
Thank you for the link
Bachata in Portuguese:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wrzSPUY11XE
If Dominicans could arrange and play like the Brazilians on that clip, I'd even listen to it.
You made a generalization criticizing Australian intelligence and behavior, thus:
"Australia, a country known for obnoxious, beer drinking idiots"
Oh Roy, did you get offended when I wrote this? Is this what this posting war is all about?
So you think you could come in here and bash everything Dominican, good or bad, and you are going to have immunity and go unscathed? You are telling me you are not in here day in and day out making generalizations about Dominicans? Now you are hurt because you don't like a stereotype about Australians very well known to the rest of the world?

You have your right to have your anti-DR campaign, and specially speak out against the things that are not right, but you sir, find negativity in EVERYTHING, including on positive news. Your short-mindedness makes you unable (no unwilling because you don’t even have the will even if you tried) to recognize credit where it is deserved, unable to identify where progress is made.
People like you are a CANCER to those around you, your family, friends, the work place... a CANCER to society.
Your attitude fits #2 and #3 of the below article. And I am sure that people you deal with on a daily basis would probably point out that you fit #1 as well

On DT, I have praised a number of good things in this country, and applauded good news too. Unfortunately the bad things here outnumber the good. I have also criticized some things in my own country on DT as well.
I have also listed on DT, things I have done to try and help the situation in this country too. Do I need to list them again? Now apart fro attempting to shoot the messenger, what have you done for this country recently?
I will just say that the Australian passport is one of the best to have and travel on... So to all load mouth obnoxious, beer drinking Australian idiots out there, some may not like us but maybe the ones that don't should ask our Dominican wives what they think?????
Sorry Roy. I mean not to talk about your private life in public as it is your life and it is up to you if you chose to talk about it here or anywhere....
So you a a proud Dominican but don't live here and were not born here either? Then you are no more Dominican than I am English or Irish, by any definition. You don't have any European ancestry either? Them maybe you should call yourself a proud African, or even a proud Homo habilis, if you go back far enough.
Have you ever lived here, or even been here? What in your imagination makes you Dominican? You live in Washington Heights?
I have already stated my ties to the Dominican Republic but I don't expect you to remember, it was at least a day ago. Dominican cheep booze is of no interest since I don't drink, and as far as exploitation off the local populace, I leave that to the experts - other Dominicans.
My ancestors did not enslave, exploit or kill any Aborigines, other than in self defense. In fact it was British colonization that saved them from extinction.
So with your "ties" to this county, what are you doing to make it better? Badmouth gringo tourists and investors?
whaaaa??????????
