Cable thieves. Photo elnuevodiario.com.do
Santo Domingo. - Two men were arrested Sunday afternoon caught by a police patrol while cutting one of Juan Bosch Bridge’s suspension cables, in the sector Guachupita, putting the structure’s stability and motorists at risk.
The Police said the agents injured one of the alleged thieves while trying to escape and mimicking reaching for a gun to fire it.
The Police said Edwin Méndez, 28, and Gabriel Ramirez, 32, will be brought up on charges in the next few hours.
It said a hacksaw was seized from both men, who also robbed steel components from the bridge, adding that the agents shot Méndez in the left leg, for which he was hospitalized.

Police should have shot both of these vultures in the head, caught "in fraganti" endangering dozens of
citizens that use that bridge every day. Outrageous!

In case you missed it:
Almost at the same level as in the year when the country suffered its worse banking crisis ever, in 2004, the debt of the non-financial public sector reached US$15.78 billion as of November, or equal to 29% of the GDP, as reported in Listin Diario. In 2004 the percentage was 29.1%. Of the total 71.4% is for foreign commitments (US$11.26 billion) and the remainder for domestic debt, or 28.6% or US$4.52 billion. This is equal to RD$174.10 billion. The foreign debt represents 20.7% of the GDP and the domestic debt 8.3% of GDP estimated at US$53.7 billion for 2011, according to the governmental report on public debt, The high debt ratio occurs at a time when tax collections are at all time highs, and the World Economic Forum ranks the Fernandez administration as global leader in wasteful spending.

They should not only arrest these two ignorants, but also the buyers of these stolen metals. Because if they wouldn't buy it, knowing it is stolen, there were no thieves of manhole covers, electric cables or in this case suspension cables. And to which close metal hungry country they export these stolen goods illegally ?????? Don't they know it there that they are stolen?

calvoleon,
the buyer could see these guys were high-tech (they owned a hacksaw). Maybe they thought they had a hard-drawn steel-wire drawing machine and a cable laying-up machine in their back yard too?
