Santo Domingo.- The widespread jitters caused  by the now frequent tremors in the country since January five have prompted the public safety agencies, coordinated by the Emergency Operations Center (COE), to issue prevention measures on Tuesday.

COE director Juan Manuel Méndez the measures include a guide for citizens to elaborate a family emergency plan in case of a quake, to be socialized through workshops promoted with the support of mayors’ offices and municipal governments.

Also a workshop with the media slated for March, to coordinate the information effectively, as well as spot ads to educate the citizens as to what to do before, during and after a quake.

In a press conference, Méndez asked the population to visit COE’s Website (www.coe.gov.do), to find the prevention guide and seek information via the phone at 809-472-0909.

Among the officials of the agencies gathered figured Civil Defense, Dominican Red Cross, National Police, Armed Forces and Public Health.

Esta temblando la tierra
Y no es por un castigo
Ni es porque en el infierno
Se está haciendo mucho ruido

Quizás es que temblar
Es su forma de protesta
Y está queriendo decir
Me están colmando la jeta

La tierra es muy generosa
Tal vez envía un aviso
Y lo dice y lo repite
Tan solo moviendo el piso

¿Como abrirle los ojos
A las autoridades
Para evitar que sucedan
Algunas fatalidades?

They will come crashing down...mass chaos...Haiti will gloat and say "see? how do you like it? now we're equals at ground zero!" or words to that effect.....The U.S. and other host-nations will help and it will be a slow recovery....

People taking the 5 padlocks off their doors (ala Maxwell Smart)....cutting the bars out of the windows! They may survive a big quake, but all their possessions will be stolen in the time leading up to the big one!

Exactly, PuntaCanaMike, stick with the rosary-beads and make sure you are up to date with your tithing.
Leave the locks on and the thieves can come in through the roof after it collapses.

@walnut,

That is not the sky falling, its the sun having an eruption. That is also why COE will claim to be off line. Has very little to do with earthquakes though. One of the (too many) generals has an old computer, and doesn't know how it works!

All I can say is, get these damn bars of all of my windows!!! This is so stupid!! I'm on the 4TH floor with trees to the left of me, an easy jump to safety. However, we have jail bars on every damn window, even the balcony, where do you go?? It should be a fire hazard to boot..Oh, I'm not in NY anymore..Click Click, nor Kansas...Oh Joy! BTW, have you ever seen how these building are built!! Oh yea! the big bad wolf could certainly blow us down!

Anyhoot, its been quite scary this past Month, it really started in Dec! Get the dam story right..SO, its been more like 7 times and we had a very small tremor yesterday..Tell you what, its coming soon!! and its not an under ground volcano! Tommy Lee Jones told me so! and he don't care that I killed my wife either..sigh..We are doomed!!! It will be 6.5 on the Ricky Ricardo meter and Lucy will have some explaining to do...Time to get a hacksaw and cut these bars off...Anyone that wants to attempt robbing me can deal with my 2 Rotty's or my 44
