SANTO DOMINGO. – The National Drugs Control Agency (DNCD) on Friday said it seized 102 kilos of cocaine and it arrested 5 individuals who form part of a drug trafficking ring based in the Capital and San Pedro (east), where they received the drugs from Columbia to then send it to the United States.

DNCD president Rolando Rosado said the drug was seized in San Pedro, and arrested Dewiky Quezada Molina (Taliban), the alleged coordinator of shipments to Puerto Rico and other parts of the US.

Also arrested were Tomas Mejía Rosario (Fello), Alexander Rosario (Caché), Luis Antonio Hernández (Edwin) Tomás Alexandro Mejía (El Bory) and Norkis de Dios Fernández.

Rosado said undercover agents infiltrated the criminal organization four months ago, after and exchange of information with the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), which pursues other suspects in Puerto Rico.

“We’re talking about a network formed by Dominicans, Colombians and Puerto Ricans which had its base of operations in San Pedro de Macorís to send shipments of cocaine and probably heroin to Puerto Rico, from where it was also taken the United States.”

Just my observation: Over the past many months, it appears that somewhere between an average of 200-300 kg/mo are being captured/confiscated by the DNCD/DEA. Assume, let us just say this amount represents 33% (very conservative) of the actual drugs that move through the DR toward other nations. Therefore, 600-900 Kg/mo (average) enter the DR in some form or fashion. How and where are these loads coming from? That is a butt-load of powder ! If the $90 MM USD fleet of Super Tucanos has eliminated all drug air shipments, per the FAD, that can only mean drugs are entering via boat/subs or simply crossing the Haitian/DR border. It appears to me a very simple operation to STOP the entry drug flow into the DR. Perhaps the will and efforts of the DR Government is not entirely anti-drug. Who do you believe?? What is the DEA doing in the DR? Why are my US tax dollars being pissed away in this silly Catch 22 ? All IMHO, of course.

It is a sign of a failed state when yet another massive drug-bust barely raises an eyebrow. A minor change in the price of petrol creates more interest.

The math is all very nice... it shows that the high cost of trafficking is paid by including enough extra to make the good guys look good. I doubt any significant % is consumed in the DR, its just easier to distribute from here. How much is trans-shipped out of here?

The US-Mexican Border Patrol intercepts an average of 48 pounds per 320 vehicles it intercepts. They make it easy and just obvious enough to ensure continued government funding of the service... The numbers intercepted in the DR must be assumed to be only 10-15% overall.

Land, Sea & Air supply routes are incalculable and indefensible.... so why do we seem so surprised that narco trafficking is being slightly injured by the corrupt Keystone cops of the DR. Not enough capital punishment is being doled out to offenders who are undoubtedly murderers! Specialized Narco courts and an unpublished rotation of judges who are given two options for immediate adjudication. Immediate 25 year minimum incarceration!
