Santo Domingo.– The Ministry of Labor determined that today,
Monday 30th, the Dominican Republic will commemorate Juan Pablo
Duarte’s birthday anniversary, in order to create a long weekend.
Duarte, forefather of the Dominican nationality, was born on a 26th of January. Las Thursday he was remembered throughout the country, and in San Francisco de Macoris, Duarte province, there
was a Mass and a civilian and military parade, headed by President
Leonel Fernandez.

Another excuse for the privileged to take the day off while those in their service continue to labor. What a joke !

Presidents Day is also celebrated on a Monday in the States, so I see no issue with this change. Better to have a long weekend than to break up a week in the middle. Also, it's better for planning.

Are civil servants so special?
Bank workers?
Teachers?
C'mon, not just the privileged.
True the rich are vacationing, but do they ever work?

time has come to reduce the number of holidays in this land. too much downtime. 15 holidays per year is a little over the top.

It is interesting that when the sacred date falls on a Friday, the government of this Christian country declares Monday the holiday, to enable a long week-end, since many people work on the Saturday. Yet this is in direct contravention of the Ten Commandments to work on the Sabbath.

Thank you for your concern, temetito, very well this weekend. Everyone in our village was preparing for a weekend without electricity. I said it won't happen. Almost immediately, the power came back on. So far we've had more power than usual. I think Jesus loves me. How about you?

"Today is a holiday in Dominican Republic"
For me, every day lived in my DeaR, is a holiday.
I look forward to my permanent vacation there; from July on, and lasting 'til the day I die,----
I will spend the rest of my days, as servant to the very poor.
And aspire to be a problem solver, language teacher, farmer, and author.... I'll be praising my God for the good fortune of allowing me to live out my days, in our quasi-paradise! ..Que viva la Patria!!

Pleasant dreams, Ron
I hope you don't get mugged, robbed, scammed, disappointed, dejected Dengue before returning to Gaithersburg by October.

Not to sound deluded but: I choose to see things, not as they are, but as they CAN be.
A prudent person will always strive to walk on solid ground and trod a new path when there isn't a better one.
Healthy minds are not hindered by the negatives, because they can also see the positives all around. I'm fully aware of the pitfalls and know how the mind works in most Dominicans; therefore getting scammed, mugged or robbed, are the least of my worries.
I don't want to come across as some kind of dreamer. But I can see a lot of potential in the mix. It simply needs a catalyst to make things react accordingly. I'd like to be that catalyst or, at least, try.
Regardless of what happens, I'll never be disappointed of living a life, full of sensory perception, not one of deprivation, as it is here in Gaithersburg. Being there is what will help me achieve orgasm-extraordinaire. Ugly face, not withstanding.
