Santo Domingo.– The Christian Democratic Union (UDC) on Sunday held the Delegates National Convention and its 4th Ordinary Congress, where the party's new authorities were chosen and Luis Acosta Moreta "El Gallo" was proclaimed as the presidential candidate for the upcoming elections.

The congress also gave special powers to "El Gallo" to develop alliances and to choose his running mate. Delivering the keynote address, Acosta Moreta said the country's wealth is so concentrated in a few hands that the levels of lawlessness and insecurity reflect a growing social exclusion.

Lionel had that costume in his closet. Just waiting to hear if he could run for the third term. The members of the Court of Fools now become more identifiable

Many comments from the US, Australia and other Free nations seem so incredulous of the systemic abuses here... The Dominicans living out of the DR reading our comments and nod their heads in agreement and understanding.

This is a beautiful country with so much potential and I have loved living here but I grow more intolerant of the " idiotlectuals" (THANKS GENEROSO) and and the system that supports their blatant abuses of a largely wonderful population.

I doubt Moreta issued this as his electioneering photo. Would this be some mischief by Dominican Today?

Any candidate that can mix the words Democracy and Christianity to form or be part of a political party whether wearing a clown suit or NOT shall me considered a clown regardless.

I throw my support for DT choosing of the picture. I would love to see this attitude be spread representing all candidates like Hipolito and Danilo, Heck even Leonel shall be in this league of clowns.

There is no such thing as a christian democracy!

Politics requires continuous shameless self promotion and identifying with the voters ... his foolish outfit in this picture is actually a very good fit for the venue in which he is participating ... and as an attention getter and standing out in the crowd this has worked ... who cares that out of context he looks like a clown? a wise handler could flip this image around and make observations about how he participates in harmony with the people and has the positive effect of aligning his personality with a positive fun component ... unlike the infamous tatoo that LF has on his chest of the grim reaper out to collect, hmmm, very negative position to take ...

Belly,
I would have to agree that Christianity and democracy are totally incompatible, however there are many political parties all over the world that call themselves Christian Democrats.
Kinda like fighting for peace or fu(king for virginity.
Perhaps some of the devil costumes I saw at La Vega last Carnival would suit some other candidates too?
