Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Anticorruption Alliance (Adocco) on Wednesday filed a request for Justice minister Francisco Dominguez to investigate several current and former officials in the government's economic area, to respond for the fiscal deficit of around RD$155.0 billion (US$3.9 billion).

Adocco coordinator Julio Cesar de la Rosa called for a probe of Economy minister Temistocles Montas, the spokesman who announced the tax reform, ex Finance ministers Vicente Bengoa and Daniel Toribio, as well as ex of Budget director Luis Hernandez. All four officials are close to ex president Leonel Fernandez.

De la Rosa said Domínguez was asked to investigate if the so-called "budget hole" stems from violations to the Constitution, the Budget Law and the Law on Public Credit.

He said the top prosecutor should probe into a movement he affirms were of more than RD$100 billion during the transition period, to pay for contracts and public debts, which he says didn’t figure in the 2012 budget.

De la Rosa argued that the Executive Branch cannot spend what’s not stipulated in the Budget, "and according to data provided, it would be spending RD$37.3 billion at year end 2012, more than what was approved in the amendment to Law No. 174-12.”

Ain't gonna happen.

Isn't it amazing that everyone knows about/talks about the excessive corruption but nothing is ever done about it?

Sadly all anyone really thinks about is "how can they get their share".

jb,

Sooner rather than later one of these Straws Will Break the back of the Dominican People and that pent up anger and rage since 1930 will boil over and look out.

I wish that it would not happen, but this PURPLE SCUM is leaving no other options to the frustrated Dominican Masses!

" Brazil’s Largest Corruption Trial Yields Its Most Important Guilty Verdict

By ANDREW DOWNIE / SÃO PAULO | October 10, 2012

José Dirceu, one of Brazil's most powerful political figures, has been convicted in the wide-ranging mensalão scandal trial, which is considered a key test of the nation's modernization"

It’s a landmark decision that could help reform the perniciously entrenched culture of graft in Brazilian politics. On Tuesday, Brazil’s Supreme Court ruled that José Dirceu—former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva’s first chief of staff and the man responsible for drafting many of the policies that helped turn Brazil into one of the world’s most dynamic economies today—is guilty of overseeing a wide-ranging cash-for-votes scheme that paid millions of dollars to members of Congress to support Lula’s program."

Atabey, this is where you start to marginalize the discourse. STOP COMPARING THE DR WITH OTHER COUNTRIES!!. the problem we have is right here! i do not give a rat's ass about corruption in Brazil. that has nothing to do with me, nor my neighbor, who cannot send her daughter to school because she has not found a job in 10 months. i do not blame that on the government, but i blame the fact that she will be further strapped to make it through the day when the paquetazo kicks in. let the Brazilians worry about their own problems. we are in deep sh*t here, as it is.

The Government wants to talk about cutting spending A trap?

What were the priorities of Leonel Fernández, for example, to generate a fiscal of 187 billion pesos deficit?

Very clear to find a way to secure his re-election in 2016

But in reality the trend should go in other directions. It’s not so much that the Government reduce spending, but to reorient its spending, to say clearly what are the priorities that they will invest the resources.

What were the priorities of Leonel Fernández, for example, to generate a fiscal of 187 billion pesos deficit?

Very clearly, to find a way to secure his re-election in 2016, when he aims to return to seek power. And that cannot be. That way you’re not thinking about the country or combating poverty, but in patronage and purchasing of loyalties.
