American gets murdered in the DR. The DR is under pressure to find the killers while mitigating the blow to her tourist industry. Solution: Find a Haitian scapegoat or scapegoats. Oh, look, a couple of Haitians (probably illegal immigrants) 'fled' the location of the crime. They arrested a Haitian woman, bearing food for the prisoners, for being a spy. Why was she privy on the 'steps being taken by the National Police'? They recovered some of the victim's stolen property but it does not specify in whose possession they found the property. Ok, maybe some of these Haitians had some of this property. In my country, if you hear that someone just got killed, you can bet that that dead guy's house will be the next house robbed. They tell me that in the DR if someone gets hit by a car on the street and is laying dead on the roadside, people will take things of value off the dead body - is this true? I am not saying that these guys are innocent but I am definitely saying I smell a rat!

I realize that what I wrote would not be popular but popularity is not what I am after. I want for all of us intellects (which I think that we all are) to look at this from different vantage points. Until proven guilty these people are innocent (in the eyes of the law) and until convicted of these charges, these charges are just alleged. I hope that we can agree that we should respect and adhere to the rule of law.
So many of you have commented on the corrupt nature of the National Police. So many of you have commented on the Police as being contributory to crime in the DR.
Please someone answer this question, is what I wrote possible? If so, why would it provoke dissent?

Well chilliwestaziz, it is not the first time that Haitians living here had committed it crimes, they do it all the times up north in the Santiago providence where sometime the community itselves take action to get them out of the area. Just remember that in 2010 after the earthquate a large number of haitians prissoners scape and some of them flet to the Dominican Republic. So yes this crime could actually had been committed by these guys. Now they have to be proven guilty when they go to court because they yet to go to court. There were also rummors these people that got killed were involved on the plane that crashed a few days before they got kill.

I respect your way of thinking and I think that you have made a very good point here.
I have lived in the DR for 6+ years and have never had a problem with a Haitian. They are people that work hard and keep to themself.
Now Dominicans on the other hand have RIPED me off left and right from day one, and the funny thing about it is that they come a smile in your face like nothing ever happened.
What you say about lying dead on the road side is very true. I had a young man that lived close ti me that got run over on his way home form work late one evening. By 9 pm when someone found the body he did not have one piece of clothes left on him even the socks and underwear. This kid was on a motorcycle which was gone too, only pieces of broken plastic laying around.

so now u have the crazy dominicans to deal with and now u can also be careful of the hatians
new yorks murder rate last year was at 4.5 per 100,000 dr is at 31 per 100,000
last year the dr had 2800 murders and in new york with over ten million people and over 100,000 tourists that come into the city each day new york had only 423 murders.
u see in new york city we have a real police force and most do their jobs well each day. in the dr we have a few monkeys with a 5th grade education for a police force.
their job is not to protect tourists nor even local dominicans their job is to rob or shake down drug dealers this is their true work.

Everytime someone in the Sosua/Cabarete area has been murdered (people that I knew), the initial blame was 'Haitians', even arresting some. Eventually the truth was revealed, and it was Dominicans, and no charges were filed. Dominicans have a thing about killing expatriates that they know have detached themselves from family in their countries, and taking over their land, houses, and businesses, stealthily. And they always blame Haitians, particularly prostitutes. This is what happened to American Bob in Sosua. It was blamed on a Haitian prostitute, but EVERYBODY knew the Dominican who did it. Haitians are blamed for everthing gone wrong in RD, but 95% of the time, the problem is Dominicans.

This is a reminiscence of Rafael Leonidas Trujillo Molina era, circa October 1937 when the albinos Trujillo ordered the killing of Haitian in the Dominican Rep on the pretext that the Haitian authorities killed a top Dominican spy in Haiti .Trujillo also accused the Haitian of stealing cattle in Dominican Rep. The Dominican military slaughter between 38,000 to 50,000 Haitians according to historians. Such holocaust will make Alonso de Ojeda looks like a boy scout in comparison even though some of his descendants were involved in the perejil /parsley massacre.
My generation may not see the revenge even after 70 years but one day the Haitians will have to make those albinos Dominicans pay a heavy price for the 1937 holocaust.
Thieves: Every country has good and bad people. Haiti and Dominican Rep have thieves also except that police Departments all over the world have registered several hundred thousand more Dominican thieves than Haitian thieves which means that we are more honest.

It was amazing to see so many English citizens living in France, etc. Many Americans and Canadians live in each other's country. Although, some Americans would not like to admit it, some of them call Mexico home. Haiti and the DR are connected by land and water (I think) and perhaps the approach should be one of brotherhood instead of hatredhood (for lack of a better word). Looking at other neighboring countries around the world, the probability of Haitians and Dominicans living in each other's country is probably 100%.

I can tolerate even a 10% increase in haitian population, that's 1 million immigrants, but 3 million is way overboard. That's 33% of our population. Ask the french if its accerptable to them to take in 20 million English in a 10 year period. That's the problem, the Haitian population went from 500,000 in the late 1990's to 3 million illegals today. If you think that's ok why don't you send out an open invitation to Haiti to send at least 1/2 a million to Jamaica. The Bahamians are up in arms over their illegal haitian population. If a lot of my people do go over to Haiti I hope they will follow the rule of law and apply for a visa. Your government should insist on this. What is fair is fair.

Bonne fortunne. With the ease in immigrant population tensions and apprehensions on our part will also ease. Hell some sectors may even lament their departure. (Multi-national hoteliers , managers of govt construction projects, food suppliers and others who were making a good living off the excess population.). As I previously posted, I feel we should give legal residence to a percentage of the refugees and certainly to 2nd and 3rd generation descendants of long time immigrant workers to help Haiti and heal old wounds.

Sophia Martelly: Haitians "More Open About HIV"
The 19th International AIDS Conference is underway in Washington, D.C. People have come from all over the world to share knowledge and their experiences about fighting AIDS in their countries. Today, we want to focus on Haiti. That nation was considered an epicenter of HIV infection in the early days of the epidemic.
In 1981, the Center for Disease Control listed the groups at risk of catching HIV in the United States as the four H's. I'm using their terms now. That is, homosexuals, hemophiliacs, heroine addicts, and Haitians. At the time, 6 percent of new AIDS cases in the U.S. were among Haitian immigrants, though their numbers in the general population were quite small.
From: Haiti
At that time, some experts predicted that as much as a third of Haiti's population could be lost to the disease. But over the years, Haiti built up prevention, treatment, care, and support programs and even had some success reducing the infection rate, despite being one of the poorest countries in the world.
Still, the World Health Organization reports that prior to that devastating earthquake in January of 2010, there were 120,000 people living with HIV in Haiti. THOSE FIGURES ACCOUNTED FOR ALMOST HALF OF ALL HIV positive people in the Caribbean. Haiti's first lady, Sophia Martelly, spoke at the International AIDS Conference in Washington D.C. earlier this week.

Hahahahahaha. That must have been some hangover.
What's the matter haitik, didn't like those figures?or the 4 H's?
Actually that is nothing to laugh about. I asked about the virus situation sincerely not trying to be funny. Our countries are connected by land, what sickens one side will spread to the other .
This is a mutual problem.
Happy to see progress happening in Haiti. Hope the tourism continues to pick up. Hope our countries can promote the other in tourism as that article of a few weeks back reported.
Just do us a favor, as things improve and more jobs are created, can you call on your people in DR to come back to Haiti. At least 1/2 going back voluntary will go a long way for better relations. That might give us the breathing room we need to do something for our citizens.
From: United States
Spinach your hate will consume you. Its not good for the soul brother.
With the amount of Haitians living illegally in the country the number of Dominicans that feel as you do will increase. Both extremists ( your hatred makes you one ) will only lead us to war and ruin. Due to proximity it is impossible not to have any interaction. Especially now with the massive immigration from Haiti to DR the last few years. It takes two to quarrel. We have rightful resentment from almost 60 years of invasions from your ancestors. This resentment led to the massacre of '37 for which you now have resentment.
Well mon enami, we can continue perpetuating the resentments and stereotypes or we can try to begin a new chapter in our relations. It is up to us adults to teach our children not to continue the hate. Both our history books perpetuate this hate (where did you learn yours? ). What will you teach your children?

Ronald "Roro" Nelson was found guilty in the Dorchester Civil Court in Boston, Massachusetts by a jury of 12 presided by Judge David Poole.
Dozens of supports of Nelson and Michel Martelly were on hand at the sentencing, chanting in support for the defendant even to the point of requiring Judge Poole to say that the Haitians had to learn to be good and behave in court and that he would not tolerate disruptions and disturbances and would take drastic steps to maintain order.

The Crime
Plaintiff Astride Pantal, 45, testified that she had tried to collect a debt of $3,000.00 US from the defendant, Mr. Nelson.
Pantal stepped up her attempts when she learned that Nelson's friend, a former entertainer named "Sweet Micky" would be the next president of the republic of Haiti and that Nelson would have had a position in the government.
Following numerous attempts, defendant Ronald Nelson had agreed to meet the plaintiff in front of his residence at 7:00 PM. She says she waited 10 hours and Nelson had not appeared. Nelson asked her to wait and finally arrived by the 11th hour.
From: Haiti
Court records say that a violent altercation broke out that began verbal. Nelson landed a violent slap and ripped synthetic hair from the victims scalp. The victim's skirt had been ripped and she was stabbed with car keys on her cheek.
Nelson was found guilty on two counts, assault and assault with a deadly weapon. The defense said that it was Ms. Pantal who had attacked Nelson but information had surfaced that found that Nelson was perhaps intoxicated during the event.

The Sentence
With seven votes, jurors found the defendant guilty. He is sentenced to twelve months of probation and must report regularly to a probation officer for the first four months.

Yeah, we should give everyone of them an apartment with all the furniture for the contribution to our country.
So many of you have commented on the corrupt nature of the National Police. So many of you have commented on the Police as being contributory to crime in the DR.
Please someone answer this question, is what I wrote possible? If so, why would it provoke dissent?
@ Chill
" I had a young man..."

PLEASE TAKE THE CHOO CHOO TRAIN IN SANTO DOMINGO FOR THE CHANCE OF YOUR LIFE TO SEE OUR BEAUTIFUL LA-LA LAND WE HAVE OVER HERE.

new yorks murder rate last year was at 4.5 per 100,000 dr is at 31 per 100,000
last year the dr had 2800 murders and in new york with over ten million people and over 100,000 tourists that come into the city each day new york had only 423 murders.
u see in new york city we have a real police force and most do their jobs well each day. in the dr we have a few monkeys with a 5th grade education for a police force.
their job is not to protect tourists nor even local dominicans their job is to rob or shake down drug dealers this is their true work.
in fact the police and army bring their own crime wave to the honest people of the dr.

The word is spreading all over the World. Soon people will stop comming here. The only people that will come to the DR are the ones that come for the drugs, street girls and little children (like Roy Stoned and Dreamkiller)
" If murders kept the tourists away, then Cancun and Rio de Janeiro would be deserts. "
(I think he meant "deserted")
Yes, Rio is a dangerous place. However it has real, world-class attractions - the Dominican Republic has nothing that even comes close (except maybe the women), and the same can be found as good or better than the Dominican Republic, in any tropical coastal region.
u must live in hialeah area?

The DR I was born and grew up was a very peaceful country all the way to the mid-90's. There was no iron bar protecting windows or door. You could go anywhere in the country and felt safe. I remember I used to go with my girl and other friends to Punta Russia and stayed there camping overnight. Of course that was until two things became indifference to the new liberal government and that was DRUGS AND THE HAITIAN PROBLEM. The problem really took off amazingly deteriorating our society after the year 2000. The drug dealers became part time owners along with the politician of the country. The frontier became a lucrative post as oppose to punishment post as in the past. The Haitians commits crimes and disappear back to their country to cool down and nobody heard from them again.
Haiti is probably the poorest country in the world with almost zero opportunity and no stable government. They have one of the highest crime rate in the world where little girl get rape at daylight. I LMAO at you guys thinking that the one that comes to DR illegally are just the one that come to work. That is simply unbelievable that make two things clear, either you guys deliberately pushing for fusion or just naive.

It was the same way when I was growing up in Haiti. We never use to lock our doors.
Of haitian national team like we care about them. Hey idiot stick to the article: haitian lowlives arrested with property of murdered ex-pat.
Danny zero; if u r 1/2 DR that half must have been a haitian trespasser illusioning they are Dominican. You have no sense of national pride, obviously no knowledge of our history, and a hypocrite for not seeing the far worse situation in your real homeland ( the other 1/2 ?) Ayti.
Bad enough we have our own low life theives and murderers
We cannot tolerate illegal haitians committing crimes in our land. Death penalty for haitians convicted of murder in our lands, double the penalty for committing any other type of crime while in OUR lands.
2nd a Dominican was murdered in Haiti, the haitians were stealing cattle along the border, many Haitians were illegally (like today) settling in the border areas, and 3rd What the hell were 50,000 Haitians doing on our side?
As far as vengeance call it even for all the murders, rapes, pillaging and destruction of towns done by your F*#@ing army in 5 different unprovoked invasions of our country. Your best move is to get the F*#@ out of our country before we have another incident. Don't forget the same insane violent African blood runs thru our veins. You looking for a fight we will give it to you!
In Europe, there wasn't a country that I visited there that did not have people from other European countries living and visiting there.

Good point Vacano. I am not surpised that not one of the hatians or their sympathizers has comdemned the barbarous acts of these low life,
Come on guy, who would not comdemned any, I mean any, type of crime???? Maybe some of those guys are getting a bit off topic. You, yourself must remember the old addage, the law will prevail with equitable justice for the victims. Above all, specially the air force officer, hope he will make it through, should come to the plate and make a positive ID of those criminals. If they are possitively ID? Do not waste tax payers $ to keep them incarcerated, pass them through infinitive!
Education levels in Haiti are low.Haiti’s literacy rate of about 53 percent (55 percent for males and 51 percent for females) falls well below the 90 percent average literacy rate for Latin American and Caribbean countries. The country faces shortages in educational supplies and qualified teachers, and the rural population remains underrepresented in the country’s classrooms.
Current State of Education.
Though the Constitution requires that a public education be offered free to all people, the Haitian government has been unable to fulfill this obligation. It spent 10% of government funds for the country's elementary and secondary schools.
And they never were invaded by haitian armies.
Venganza
Maybe we should join Caricom so they won't accuse us of racism when we try to regulate our own immigration law.
Mwa hahahaha!
Really haitiqueen? Is that the kind of man or should I say b*tch you are?
You can't keep this animosity between us? I can't stand your guts but that has nothing to do with most Haitians. I have actually known a couple of Haitians and we never had any problems. We agreed on many things, especially not showing a united front to the gringos during the early 20th century when they invaded both our lands.
Anyway my brother from another mother(my mother is white, blonde, farm fed from el Cibao), as I have said before, anytime and place you want to throw hands I will meet you, kick your pure black ass then share a Babancourt with you to celebrate another good asskicking of a Haitian by a Dominican. And if you by some miracle or voodoo hex come out on top we can share a Presidente tres froide.
After you and the queen kick each other's arses, I don't want either presidente or barbancourt. However, I will stand on the sideline making out with a couples good looking cibaeña of what ever shade!!!!
Let me know when the rumble will effect so I can star sending invitations to a few of the hermosas.

Police believed Kernizan was going to try and make a break for Haiti. The man accused of murdering Tracy Bennet and Wayne "Captain Barkey" Hamilton was met up with in Northwest, Miami-Dade County, Florida.
