Santo Domingo.-  Despite the government’s and the Senate presidency’s talk of adopting austerity, and that the handout of gifts isn’t one of its functions, the Chamber of Deputies still applies its own welfare program.

Through it, the lower Chamber has made a call for tenders for 125,000 pounds of imported turkey, such as "Premium", 63,000 pounds of such as "Red Globe" grapes; 1,500 boxes of "Red Delicious" apples, and 450,000 pounds of rice premium , in bundles of 12 packages of five pounds.

In addition, the Chamber of Deputies website also reveals its plans to buy locally 98,340 pounds of red beans, and large amounts of cooking oil and chicken.

And although the Chamber’s Social Assistance Program doesn’t figure in the budget, the approaching holidays set in motion the politicos’ traditional habit of using taxpayers’ money to distribute handouts.

If this president wants to add new taxes to pay for the f&$@ ups that have plagued the DR for far to long, he needs to try just one thing before.. Hold a referendum to allow him to cut all government wages above 200,000 by a minimum of 50%, close all embassies but one in each region.. ie North America, South America, Europe, Asia...
Audit every government department and all with government contracts..
A referendum would allow him to by pass having the politicians voting against it , as we all know they wouldn't even allow a bill like that on the floor..

1. more new taxes
2. reduce all government wages and wasted spending
Anyone think the people would vote new taxes??

If the politicians and workers don't like it... they can leave! (no pensions, no pay outs, nothing) As their job is to work for the country NOT their own pockets...
If they want to make money, they can work in the private sector like everyone else....

The only other way is for the people to rise up and that will get ugly...

DR wanted free election as a synonym of DEMOCRACY,well they got it !! and how they got it !!

Stillhere:

That was a very good thought slashing all the gvt salary above 200,000 by 50% and close all

embassies, Should read all consulates .Embassies we need. Get rid of deputies if they are not

representing its constituents. If they are to remain on their posts let them get involved with things

that matter in their respective Provinces they represent.

Get rid of 90% of those 50,000 botellas from 2008 on that cost the gvt US$ 105.5 millions could

go into education, health, electric sector. We don't need so many cosulates open since business

are pre programed by the DR congress,So are we inflated by 1160 oversea jobs that don't pay

any tax abroad hiding under their diplomatic badges, but expect services that are not entitle to.Last

but not least those 8 deputies overseas created under this new administration I think it is a waist

since they'll be doing nothing
