Santo Domingo.- Justice minister Francisco Domínguez reacted alarmed with the spiraling domestic violence, which has claimed five victims just on Friday, when the deaths of three women and two men, left seven children orphaned.

He announced a meeting with the appropriate agencies to draft a new policy action to prevent those family tragedies which have shocked the national awareness.

The official said the authorities and society cannot allow the many preventable femicides to continue.

He acknowledges the judicial system’s many flaws in protecting and preventing domestic violence, making it necessary to ask what's going to break the cycle of violence affecting the country. "Within one month the Government will submit a new strategy, because we’re redesigning everything, so we can have a more effective policy against femicides"

Dominguez, speaking after  a National Palace meeting with president Danilo Medina, said “we need to act because there’re many rapes, abuse, harassment and murders of women, usually young, and they’ve left a lot of children and youngsters orphans, who must also be protected.”

They let these monsters loose after they catch them so there is no deterrent to stop them from doing it again and it shows the first time offenders that it is OK. They should catch these creeps and make work gangs and let them clean up the DR or do something useful. They clam the jails are full well let them out to work. The creeps that want to rape cut off their n*ts and it will probably stop someone who is thinking about it.

Justice minister Francisco Domínguez,

I have an idea for you to think about.

You have them picked up and brought to the local jail. You then put the offender in a dark room with 12 police officers armed with whips and bats. You beat and whip the offender untill there is not a spot on the body that has not been beat. You then take lemon juice and poure it over the wounds and let him free.
PS. You tell the offender that next time will be the grave yard.

Bhal, bhal, bhal... Same crap different day.

You have been saying this for the last 10 years that I know of.

Groundhogs day mentality prevents you from doing ANYTHING about it.

Worst of all it is part of your society to allow this despicable behavior. Like raping 14 year old women and calling that a 'custom'.

Problem is laws are a joke in the DR and are NEVER applied. The richer you are, the more heinous crimes you can commit with impunity.

Failed country.

not to say its right, but we should try to found out the cause of these murders. if i found my woman with a man in bed i don't know how i would react. in the heat of the moment how would we react?we most teach the men and women how to walk away from each other

Two of the victims were men, kinda loses the point of the article argument ?
