Electoral chief confirms embarrassing pension

Santo Domingo.-  Central Electoral Board (JCE) president Roberto Rosario on Tuesday said he’ll disclose the names of that agency’s pensioners to those entities where they now work, for them to take appropriate measures.

The official’s statement comes in the heels of snowballing demands to reveal the names of officials who’ve managed to unlawfully collect pensions despite earning a government paycheck.

Rosario said he has yet to receive the request to suspend the pension obtained by Supreme Court (SCJ) justice Julio Cesar Castaños Guzman, who was forced to admit to collecting a pension from his previous post as electoral judge.

Interviewed on Color Vision channel 9, Rosario said if Castaños requests the suspension of his pension, he’ll send the rules to the entity where he works," for them to decide."

Rosario defended the JCE’s pension plan, adding that it has grown quickly to RD$1.4 billion in the past eight years.

DEPUTIES WANT “STOLEN” MONEY RETURNED

A group of deputies on Tuesday asked president Danilo Medina to instruct Pensions superintendent Joaquín Jerónimo to investigate all pension plans in all government agencies.

In a press conference, the deputy Francisco Matos spoke for his colleagues, and said it’s not enough to suspend or renounce the pensions as some officials have done, and instead everyone with one  or more irregular pensions, and even getting a government paycheck still, must “return to the people that which they’ve stolen.”

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic.-The Directorate General of National Properties (BN) used more than 15 million pesos to finance luxury vehicles to its staff, which stopped paying once they were dismissed or resigned from their posts, according to an audit of the accounts Chamber of the Dominican Republic.

At least 25 vehicles were purchased for equal number of staff at a cost of RD$ 15 million 423 thousand 553.

Of that amount, beneficiary officials stopped paying the sum of 4 million 296 thousand pesos, while the institution directed legal action to recover the money.

National Properties covered 75 percent of the cost of the vehicles, while officials would pay the remaining 25 percent by loans made to the Bank of Reserves. The payment of loans to the Bank would be through deductions from the salaries of officials, according to the audit.

"Lack of transparency detracts moral standing for the Government to collect more taxes"

"In view of the failure of efforts for the formulation of a framework for fiscal policy for the medium term, with the participation of different sectors that interact in our society and the imposition of a government approach based on the strength by their acquired power and the contempt for a large part of the citizens, I considered it a responsibility to present my thoughts on the fiscal situation, for the purpose of continuing the essential debate that must continue happening around the use of piblic funds in the country."

anbro2007,

Don't worry this all for show until the masses calm down. Saint Danilo knows where all the bodies of corruption are buried, he helped put them there, so he is not going to dig to deep!

Now a question comes to mind; was/is Saint Danlio getting a PENSION since he left government to challenge Lie-onel Back in 2006?

Sounds good, but the reality is that if we cut out the excessive pensions, eliminate the bribes, and put a halt to government workers outright stealing, what reason will there be to go into public service?

Oh, if he imitated Bosch!

Juan Bosch received a country with a fiscal deficit of about 53 million (huge, like todays), zero income from State-owned enterprises, behind in payroll, unemployment and extreme poverty.

What did he do?: Taxed the rich, lower the wages the high level bureaucracy, trimmed the payroll, restricted public spending , regulate the flow of foreign currency, controlled prices and used sugar incomr to generate jobs, without external debt... Well, if Danilo imitates Bosch, the Yankees, the clergy, the oligarchy and the guards would not dare overthrow him. (That cost us a lot).

Hey Josean, what you should say in this regards is that with Danilo a least everything is coming to light and that now the people and must of all the PLD party members are the ones doing whatever is in their hands to public say who is stoling from the government and who had stolen before. So in other words Danilo is keepping his promise of do what never been donde before, correct what is wrong. So please stop saying that is the PLD narco and refrase to as a few PLD party members. This is the first time in the history of this country that the same party members are making it public what other in their party are and were doing wrong and if is not like that, then tell me the first time that you heard of anything like that done before.

Here is a bone for you bernies:

Is Sanit Danilo trying to out Machiavelli Lie-onel?

"Danilo Medina predicted it"

In primaries for the selection of the presidential candidate for the 2008 elections, the now President of the Republic, Danilo Medina, warned of the damage that would be caused by the obstinacy of the then President Leonel Fernández to stand for reelection inspite of the commitment he ( Fernandez) had made to support his (Medina’s) candidacy in reciprocity for the support that Medina gave this in 2004. It was a prediction. The reelection of the President, Medina said on that occasion, will damage the country, the PLD and the image itself of Fernandez.

We are suffering the results of the ambition of power of Mr. Fernández and seeing it now in all its magnitude. The country is worse with a historic fiscal deficit and an un-payable debt, the PLD is seriously questioned because the legacy of corruption that was left by the two past administrations and the persona of Mr. Fernández is eroded and politically threatened by prosecution demands.

Medina is obliged to pay for the dishes he did not break. Nor can he charge those responsible because that would mean condemning himself, because even though his party controls the Congress, which he needs to ensure governance, no one is sure if that cluster would respond unanimously to his Government, or if their loyalties are divided between the two leaderships of the PLDisom.

Medina has been criticized; I among them, for keeping in his Cabinet many staff members who contributed to the disaster that he has inherited. But none of us have asked if has not done so, so that in the negotiation of fiscal reform and in the debate that we already have at hand they will be stipulated to bear the burden of their performances.

Perhaps criticism of that "weakness" helps to create the atmosphere of pressure that would force you to take actions that are asked without the need to break with his party.
