This rain is so savage now that I can understand that there will bw much damage ..I have just taken nearly four hours from la Romana to Zona Colonial ...all traffic has stopped in la Romana with water running very fast and very deep in many streets ...the main road is blocked to all but big trucks ..In San Pedro ,,in the town ..it is the same story with many cars marooned ,,,butthe worst I think is in Villa Fransica and also in some of the entry streets into Zona colonial ...they are giant waterfalls of mud and water ..calle.A Merino near Ave Mella is a disaster zone and so are the streets between Merino and calle Isobela Catolica ..
Luckily after the bursts of high wind last night there is not too much wind to uproot the trees .

Where is all this rain on the north coast we have had little to no rain. We are still hoping for enough to stop the dust on the back roads.

Aside from a 1 hour downpour last night and one around noon today...nothing here in Punta Cana Bavaro. Spent the morning playing 18 holes at Iberostate...personal best round!

puntacanamike,
do not comment, as it looks like you are NOT competent to do so. Who in the fu.. is talking about Punta Cana? Maybe you don't know how far you are from the Capital, and how far it is all the way to the Haitian border. As you also commented on the closing of the small airport in S.D. , so please keep your comments for yourself, as you are too stupid to see what is really going on!!
Have a nice day!!!

anbro2007,
In this little Banana Republic, nowhere is more than a day's drive from anywhere else. Punta Cana is less than 200 km (as the crow flies) from Santo Domingo. On a good day you can drive there and back for lunch. With a steady westerly breeze, you can smell the Ozama Sewer in Punta Cana. Hardly a different climatic zone!

How would the Failed State fare if a real hurricane hit?
"Hurricane San Zenon, is the fifth deadliest Atlantic hurricane on record, killing as many as 8,000 people when it crossed the Dominican Republic in 1930."
Yet it was only a category 4 (not 5, the highest) - testimony to the country's lack of preparation. One would think they would have learned something from the Great Hurricane of the Antilles that killed over 22,000!

Well Roy, as it is 200 km to S.D., and another about 150 to the Haitian border, it is, and this is happen, nothing in Punta Cana, and a lot west of S.D., who cares you can drive that in some short hours, we are not talking about distance, we are talking about what really happened. So keep your comments concerning distance. I am very familiar with the D.R., I am sure much better then you. Stop comparing the D.R. with Australia. This Mike needs to learn what happened west of S.D. is not happen east of S.D. that is where he screwed up.
Concerning if some one has learned something from the past about Hurricanes. See what happen in the US in the past few years!!! There is no much protection on a Hurricane category 4 of 5. Or you are trying to tell everyone that they should be better prepared? No way, if the US cannot handle this, how could a small Banana Republic take care of this? So, get back to reality.
