Bani, Dominican Republic.- Traffic to and from the entire South region was halted as of 6am Friday, when a bridge ramp collapsed on the Bani-Azua span of the interprovincial highway.

It’s the second time in as many months that rains destroy the structure of the bridge called Los Pilones; the first in August by Tropical Storm Isaac’s downpours.

In this occasion the Ocoa river tore off around 20 meters (around 62 feet) of the west side ramp, as a result of the hurricane. Public Works crews are on the scene waiting for the high water to subside, to restore traffic.

The damage comes despite an August 25 pledge by president Danilo Medina to seek a definitive solution after Isaac washed away the same structure.

May be it's time to hire real engineers and bridge builders from outside DR.

Tell me the PLD are not the BIGGEST Thieves in Dominican History.

They Make Trujillo and Balaguer look Liquor Store Robbers!

Yeah, let's put a real strong bridge there, built by real engineers, not some Juan de los palotes that has some connect to build the bridge everytime it goes down.

"Great astonishment by great crack in the new Baitoa Bridge."

BY: JEAN CARLOS COLLADO

The residents of the Borough of Baitoa after so many years longing for the construction of the bridge which connects Baitoa with Sabana Iglesia are now have much fear that the structure that was built just months ago is beginning to present problems in the asphalt layer and the support beams. Today Thursday we realized the disaster that aws made the engineers that built the structure.

The drainage off the bridge falls on the columns of and the beams which over time can cause problems.

No Roy.

It's an act of "Gord". Gordon Smythe Nuthatch the 3rd, to be exact. He flunked out of Engineering 101 at The Latvian College of Birdbaths and Basket Weaving. So, now he's gone rogue, and anything he designs, melts. He should have done like his mama asked and become a candy floss vendor at Euro-Disney.

Definately and act of "Gord".

Who was the contractor? A good contractor should not build a structure from an obviously flawed design, and who better look over and evaluate than the contractors given the design to bid on. They should be given the opportunity to participate in the design phase and then have to stand behind whatever they do build. A hurricane may be an ‘act of God’ in insurance parlance but is hardly to be unexpected in engineering studies.

In addition, a bond is generally posted to cover errors and shortcomings. A real engineering company has little trouble posting a hefty bond and may have coverage as per contract to cover damage for great lenghts of time.
