Santo Domingo.- Antinarcotics (DNCD) and National Police agents backed by helicopters and speedboats on Wednesday conducted a mass sweep against micro-traffickers in slums in the Ozama River’s west bank.

The operation, reminiscent of the military sweeps in Brazil’s favelas, was launched at 6am today with more than 200 Justice Ministry officials and agents who raided houses and detained suspects previously identified as the area’s drug dealers.

DNCD spokesman Roberto Lebron said the authorities conducted a survey to identify the micro-traffickers, arrested with the help of several speedboats which prevented their escape by swimming or aboard yolas.

Maybe another facet of Brazil’s influence. Well done, get the nickel guy to cop a plea to get the goods on the kilo capers. Any piece of crap who will try to get his fellow down in the dump neighbors to buy drugs instead of something more needed in these households gets no respect from me, unless I have to fake it looking at them over a knife or pistol muzzle. It is perhaps part of the idea a police chief in the US did, something about, no broken window, Stop the decline of the neighborhood and support those having to live in these less desirable areas.

Strange that this article is now news ,,when such action has been going on for many months ..i have often seen teams of police in heavy vests and face masks going out in utility vans and motor bikes targeting one barrio after another and , even though there is some evidence that they take some stolen goods for them selves ,,they certainly clean up the areas .
The problem is that in the capital , there are so many barrios where it is foolish to go at night , that their task is mammoth
