Santo Domingo.-  If approved as written in the draft to amend its statutory law, the perks which have become old customs  in the Armed Forces will become legal.

Although the current benefits of the senior officers have no legal base, they would become so with the proposed amendment to Law 873, which controls the Dominican military.

Article 158 of the bill, pending approval in Congress, validates what various sectors question- that the perks for retired generals and admirals are arbitrary- because they don’t figure in any military regulation.

The Article stipulates that the retiree’s situation of honor makes them worthy of enjoying benefits such as having "security escorts because of the degree and the position occupied during active service."

So having a phony rank and never seeing a day's action in one's entire "career" entitles one to a hero's retirement?

They suckled at the government teat for so long that they are addicted to perks for pork, Christ on a crutch, they want to raise taxes and these guys with their already cushey pensions and all that they have put away through the years still want, desire and probably demand more.

Once again, shame on the "Purple Dragons". I would like to see how many patches any of these clowns have on their right shoulder ( other than the police call mission in support of Spain). Just an insult to those who served in " real world conflict numerous time" (multiple combat ribbons). Danilo another clone of LF.

They should do away with them all together by a firing squad,since the so call gvt can't or wouln't do any thing about it .Maybe the gvt is afraid of (coup).
Ingles23;
Those guys that served under Spain in the MiddleEast are now must likely the self appointed Generals and want the same benefits as the useless fat guys that never served and need "dog washers"as well.
If you stop to think those guys that were send to IRAQ did not serve any military function since they were not engage in combat operation but "humanitary support".So what meddal could have they obtained? but the thank you from the Spanish gvt and their King,and a cost to the DR tax payers to please BUSHE'S war !

Certainly, Thelmo,
In a banana-republic the president knows that a coup d'état is always an imminent danger.
How many of the 200 generals have actually done overseas service, or have even graduated at a military academy?
To be fair, even "humanitarian support" is dangerous in Iraq.

josean, there is nothing "left" about disliking corruption, government wastage, nepotism or militarism.

We've just imposed a great tax burden on the economically deprived Dominican populace, while these fat bastards raid the coffers with absolute impunity.

Some day, justice will inevitably take its correct course and many wrongs will be righted. I long for that day to come because, frankly, I just don't see how we can allow these bastards to go on raping our nation. The breaking point simply cannot be too distant into the future, at least not if we still have some Taino blood in us.

Damn, what has happened to my people? Where has there fighting spirit gone?

What heppens to the DR mentality is they have a short memory and swor if they ever saw free election in their minds was supposed to be DEMOCRACY. That was not the case since it has been proven thruout history they are not creators but immitators. The fact is Trujillo and others before him ruled at their own descretion without any opposition and DR came to believe that it was the right way, to give them authority to be masters of their own people.Again education is
not their trade or as free thinkers but followers. To rid of despot for another is not way to go,nor
is the cause worth it. As it was and still is in LF's case, to loot a country no diferent from Trujillo.
I think his regime in 12 yrs has stollen more than Trujillo in 33, still is on as the party continues.
At least Trujillo paid out the national debts as well as a builder of a nation.
No my friends a revolution is not worth it at this time since there is no principle nationwide or
EDUCATION .

@Mr. Thelmo,

Firstly, thank you for your usual mature observations and comments.

Yes, I see your point; however, I am so frustrated by the daily abuses of our people I read about every day. I see how the country's coffers are being pillaged frequently and with total impunity, and this makes me very angry.

I find the immensely excessive salaries, especially for seemingly inept individuals, absolutely disgusting and with no end in sight. This story about those military criminals, with the many body guards and the high pensions and other undeserved privileges, along with the recently announced salaries at the "Banco de Reservas", just put me over the edge.

Again, Mr. Thelmo, thank you for your edifying comments. I don't know about others here, but I always appreciate your mature and grounded and constructive comments. In this highly cynical venue, we definitely need more contributors like you.

MJEV.

Thelmo, right on point, there is a guy on this site, that I just found out (last week), who is a “botella” living abroad (here in the States). This Ladron is receiving thousand of dollars (tax free ,I might add). His job is to promote the current administration and to act as a “spoke person for the ruling party.

In the old days in medicine, it used to be called the “Heckle and Jeckle” personality syndrome. Sometimes he is clever and to the point, and other times he is just a clown, who acts foolish (sarcastic and irrelevant) . Now he is being clever DK just hit an “Ace”. I have more respect for DK than Valerio. I will explain it later.
