Consumer protection head tipped for public defender post

Santo Domingo.-For her strong track record at the helm of the consumer protection agency,battling against vested interests in defense of Law 358-05on Consumer Rights Protection, more than 200 not-for-profit organizations areproposing Altagracia Paulino for the vacant post of Public Defender(Ombudsman).

They say that Paulino, director of the National ConsumerRights Protection Agency (ProConsumidor), has made her mark thanks to herdefense of health and what Dominicans consume, succeeding in placing herinstitution as one of the most credible state entities in the DominicanRepublic.

The organizations endorsing Paulino, including neighborhoodassociations, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), mother’s associations,service entities, drivers’ entities, sports association and religious bodiessee Paulino as a genuine representative to serve as Public Defender.

Their document of support was delivered to the director ofthe Chamber of Deputies Representation Center, Olimpia Méndez, by leaders AnaHilda Nova, of the Women in Development Association; Roberto Abreu, RhinaFebles annd Jesús Colón, among others.
