Santo Domingo.- The journalist and TV producer Guillermo Gomez affirmed Sunday that president Leonel Fernandez and the Dominican Government has been “sacking” the country and seeks to destroy him and his family with a “moral firing squad.”

“Why are you doing it Mr. President, why are you sacking the country and trying to destroy me and my family with a “moral firing squad? Is it because you fear what this humble journalist is going to divulge about your corrupt government,?” Gomez said in his program, Aeromundo, on Colorvision.

He said the Government-ordered searches and confiscations of equipment at his news Website elsiglo21.com, his offices and his residence aren’t going to halt the alleged acts of corruption by the current Administration that he’ll publish between March and April.

Shadowy figure

Gomez, who rose from anonymity to wealth and fame during the Administration of Jorge Salvador Blanco (1982-1986) of the opposition PRD party, also cited Frank Cabral Calacagno (Calcaño), one of the country’s most shadow figures, allegedly involved in illegal tapping of phone conversations for decades.

“If someone “meets with hackers, it’s the Justice Ministry, such as Mr. Frank Cabral,” he said, adding that “they’ll not be able to shut me up.”

“What the government has done is a major persecution against the freedom of expression and diffusion of thought,” Gomez said, referring to Friday’s search and seizures in his house, and Website and lawyers’ offices, and a villa in the resort Casa de Campo.

On Saturday the Santo Domingo Office of the Prosecutor, in a terse statement, said the searches stem from complaints of hacking and of illegal wiretaps by people it didn’t identify.

Now that the gloves are off. The Dictator Leonel Fernandez is starting to fade away.

This is actually good for the country and hopefully people will start looking at other parties more seriously.

Exactly Belly let’s see what this Guy has before we condemn him.

Let’s not throw out the baby with bath water.

To me even a stray dog with a rash has more credibility than this Narco Lie-onel Fernandez who has been photographed with the Spanish Drug Lord, in prison in Spain, Arturo Del Tiempo Marques. A drug lord who Lieonel took into the National Palace and “loaned” $36,000.000 million dollars of Dominican Taxpayers Money to build the Narco Tower Atiemar.

This is a president who took a personal check in his own name for 500,000 RD from an international Dominican drug dealer and then personally invited to his inaugural in 20004.

So on the credibility scale Lie-onel is no innocent angel either. Lie-onel has never had a press conference to explain or deny any of these well-known stories.

Just one would be enough for a president of any civilized democratic country to at least respond if not to be impeached!

In the following story Mr. Gomez alleges the goverment had been hacking into his servers since December 2011.

“Legal” campaign against a media outlet signals the desperation of the Government”

"It is a perfect dictatorship, we already know these mechanisms of pressure, terrorism...", and he outlined the attacks the Government engaging in since the end of December when the Government hacked the newspapers server which kept him out of digital print for a month.”

I hope Mr. Gomez is writing checks he can cash!

This charge is extremely serious!

“He also denounced that for 12 years the administration of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) supports a so-called center dedicated to listening to the phone calls of private citizens.”

“He argued that the President intends to kill him and his family morally with the raids carried out last Friday at his residence, the local portal of Siglo 21 and the offices of one of his son’s lawyers.”

Is funny that 2 years ago I said the internet was going to become the biggest nightmare for political corruption in DR and now we see it.

They will try to censor it and that's it probably what will bring "La revolucion Dominicana"

Belly,

I agree with you 1000%.

The Purple Gangsters had the upper hand with the advantage in the mastery of internet technology.

Now the opposition forces have improved their use to get their message out. So the Purple Dictatorship must resort to repression like all tyrants in history once the playing field becomes a little bit more equal to their foes.

I am afraid that the high handed raids this past Friday along with the arrest of PRD militants in Santiago is but the tip of the iceberg of repression that awaits those Dominican’s that stand up to or in the way of the solidification of the dictatorship by Lie-onel!

If Mr. Gomez seeks support HE MUST NOW let it all hang out or he will be killed before he has the chance. His life is in danger. LF is SWINE and will stop at nothing to attempt to silence Gomez. Gomez must not wait. If he wants to be taken seriously HE MUST tell all now. Before it is too late.

Mr. Gomez PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell all NOW. The country needs this, I beg you.

May God Bless Mr. Gomez and I pray like Josean he has what he claims he has.

"I do not think we are trying to censor anything"

This a great moment in DT History Rickey FINALLY ADMITS he is part of the Purple Propaganda apparatus of Lie-onel Fernandez:

He states and I quote:

“I do not think "WE" are trying to censor anything”

"WE" being the operative word!

"hacking is a crime and should be treated as such"

No one is saying it is not!

We just ask for a very simple concession, prove it first!

Then you can lock him/them up and throw away the key!

But don’t create a state of terror using a Swat Team and media circus for your paid megaphones in the media to cover-up your own possible criminality, which the public seems to believe in more, that your allegations against Mr. Gómez!

While I agree that "cracking" is a crime and shall be dealt with legally.

Please don't confuse cracking with hacking. 2 different things.

The question is. Are Dominican authorities following the law?

In the lawless jungle built by corrupt politician the last thing the public should concern is with a small cracking case that carries very little jail time if ever discovered.

We the public shouldn't be against a cracking case of a public figure if is beneficial to the country.

In a country where "technology" department cannot put a simple website together how can we ever expect dominican cyber-patrol to find cracking evidence. It could take the government 5 years investigating to sentence the cracker for maybe 3 months.

Governments, organizations, religions and individuals all over the world are trying to figure out how to censor the internet. Apart from burning the likes of Gomez and Assange at the stake, they have not got very far. It's 2012 and we still haven't reached 1984, but they're working on it, and will get there eventually. Then we will be well into the new Dark Ages. Imagine the Spanish Inquisition via the internet, and the Crusades with nukes. Maybe not Canonical Law this time, but Sharia Law instead. The dumbing-down of the general population is well under way.

It seems to me that there is a very big thick line between writing in a responsible way and have some responsibility for interenet content and simply putting everything on the internet regardless of any law that it may contrevene. there are laws that govern the radios, the tvs and the newspapers , yet some people think the internet should be free of any law that is there to protect people .

We do not call the laws on other media, censorship so why should we call the laws on internet ,censorship

I for one am against any censorship "for our own good". Ultimately is up to parents to protect, guide and educate their children to make the right choices. Otherwise they never grow up, which is part of the problem in this country - many here never mature past adolescence - we have babies having babies.

Ricky,
There is a big difference.
With radio, TV, newspapers, etc. you get what's dished up. The provider decides on the content, which ultimately means the sponsor, be it the government or the advertiser, decides what you see, read or hear. By contrast, with the internet, the end-user decides where he goes, what he sees, read or hears and the choice is virtually infinite. Anyone from big governments and corporations down to individuals can and do provide content. Individuals, unless they spend a lot of money and comply with policy, cannot provide content for the other media. The freedom of the internet is our most precious freedom and must be protected at all costs. When we allow governments to decide what we or our children have access too "for our own good" then that's the end of real freedom or democracy.

Guillermo Gomez is far from being a Julian Assange, or a defender of the right of free speech. He is a news media mercenary, and "bon vivant" who has sold his loud voice to the PRD for eons.
He has no scruples whatsoever in his MO, and his typical way of loudly crying "uncle", portrays his usual method for bullying opponents.
I have no sympathy for either of the actors in this melodrama, and they are both undesirables, but the right for citizens right to privacy must be upheld, even if in this case, it is an excuse for political persecution.

Professor,

Mr. Gomez could be the biggest scumbag since Attila the Hun, but the broader principal is the disproportionate power of the state being used to silence opposition no matter how distasteful or dishonorable that opposition is. If the guy is fairly investigated, indicted, tried, found guilty and convicted then throw the book at him.

But the media circus of a Swat Team with helicopters is too much and smells of intimidation rather than legitimate investigation, especially in the election climate we are currently experiencing.

Remember laws in a civil society are established to protect the minority from the tyranny of the majority. There is no more vulnerable minority in a society than the individual citizen, especially the unpopular citizen, that is why he or she no matter how disgusting they or the behavior is, must be given the benefit of the doubt and must be assumed innocent until proven guilty.

Regardless of his motives or affiliations, Gomez has a right to free speech. Public figures who live off the public purse, and who seek publicity, have no right to censor what is said about them in the name of privacy. If you can't stand the heat, don't go in the kitchen.
