Santo Domingo.- The pollster Benenson Strategy Group said 50 percent of the vote would go to ruling PLD party presidential candidate Danilo Medina, and 46 percent for Hipólito Mejía, of the opposition PRD, in the May 20 elections.

Benenson director Peter Brodmitz and Latin America liaison Giancalro Sopo said 42% felt sure they would vote for Medina and running mate Margarita Cedeño, while 18% said they might vote for them, for a total of 60%.

The poll also found that 42% will surely vote for Mejía and Luis Abinader, while

10% said they could lean toward their candidacy, for a total of 52%. As to their rejection rate, 39% said they would never vote for Medina compared with 47% who said never for Mejía.

The pollster also found that 51% of the voters believe that the PLD will win the May election, while 43% said it will be the PRD.

Benenson said the survey was conducted with 915 people interviewed nationwide, but provided no margin of error.

Who paid for the survey?
915 is hardly sufficient sample to have any significance.
Regardless, there is only one poll that counts, and this ain't it.

Polling secret:

You order and pay for the poll, you get to determine the winner.

Unfortunately in a country where there is no discussion of ideas in a political contest, whoever looks the prettiest on the posters littering our roadways, whoever clogs the streets with the most followers(most of whom are paid in one way or another to attend), whoever can convince the people that they are going to win get a huge boost from people who want to think that they voted for the winner. Meanwhile, we are all losers for this thinking.

That's why it is so important to have the polls say that you are leading.

Imagine what could happen if two more candidates were able to participate and spoil the vote ... DR needs more options but that requires funding ....

Absolutely, juanb,
but you forgot to mention whoever has the most powerful truck-mounted, generator-powered sound-system (better suited to a heavy-metal rock concert) sonic-booming through the town.

who would pay for a survey which polled only 915 people? in statistical terms, it is less than worthless. factor in the margin of error, and the pollsters should return the fee.

Despite the many flaws and bias presumably evident in the poll, 915 respondents actually equates to a 3.2% margin of error at a 95% confidence level. There is no mention of how the pollster screened respondents, respondent demographics or regional considerations. I doubt there is much validity to any poll taken in this country, regardless of the proclaimed number of respondents.
