Santo Domingo.- The United States has cancelled the visa of president Leonel Fernandez’s two top security officials, former Armed Forces Minister Manuel de Jesus Florentino, and a former Chief of the National Police, according the US network, Univision.

The revelation comes after months of speculation on allegedly cancelled visas of senior officials, while the allegation against Florentino dates back to Fernandez’s first term in office (1996-2000).

The network said the US State Department’s measure affects Fernandez’s personal assistant and National Investigations Department (DNI) director Victor Crispín Zorrilla, the head of his security detail, general Héctor Medina Medina and former National Police chief Rafael Guillermo Guzman.

Univision Chief investigative reporter Gerardo Reyes, speaking exclusively to the local news network SIN, said they’ve tried to obtain a response from those affected, without results.

He said that several weeks ago he investigated the case and that there’s no political agenda in the denunciation. “I want to clarify that this is based on entirely reliable sources. We were in the Presidency and in the National Investigations Department today to get their versions and they didn’t respond us.”

Local newspaper Hoy reports it tried to get the US Embassy’s reaction, to which its Press attaché Judith Ravin said, “Given the confidentiality of the visa files we generally cannot provide information on particular cases, except to the bearer of the visa.

“The State Department has sweeping authority to revoke visas. This authority is typically exerted when, after the issuing of a visa, information surfaces which indicates that the bearer of the visa could be inadmissible to the United States or ineligible to receive a visa,” Ravin said, quoted by Hoy.

I wonder who the singing Canary is:

Is it the Dominican Narco Quiriono?

Is it the Puerto Rican Narco José David Figueroa Agosto?

Is it the Spanish Narco Arturo Del Tiempo Márquez?

Is it the Dominican Campaign contributor Narco Oscar Ezequiel Rodriguez?

Or have all four become an Operatic Chorus?

Maybe Leo will need a Dominican visa after the election?
Maybe he will lose his British visa when he becomes the proud owner of the first Malvinas visa.

You can't be a narcocrat and a cleptocrat and expect everything to be hunky dory.

Maybe they should call a meeting in Narcotorre Atiemar in Guzman's apartment and elaborate a strategy.,

But not the Dominican political machine. This is just another feather in their transparent corruption hat.

You guys are so funny, maybe we are on to something here and become satirical political comedians.
At the very least we can joke about the status quo, but some of the guys in the article can't take a joke, and are extremely dangerous to health and well being. Sad but true, if in doubt ask the deceased Cuban exile owner of coffee shop "La Francesa" in SD, who was gunned down for talking too loud.

Lie-onel should feel very shame of this cancellation of his top security assistants' visa to the US, but I bet he is also very happy because when he finish his terms, he could have one excellent life.

Foresthill:

""I wonder if they will take Leonels visa after he leaves office in May?""

I am sure that the US has some kind of clues that LIe-onel is linked to those big drug issues, so...

I totally agree with you that the US should cancel Lie-onel's visa as well in May....

Well if they were investigated for past problems and the US do not want to reissue the visas ,,that sounds very fair to me ,,,it is their country ,,,I note that many many dominicans are deported every year and now in Spain two rival gangs have moved there from the USA to Spain and are causing problems .
After all in the NY prisons, Dominicans have the highest percentage inmates to country population and there is evidence that a Domincan gang is terrorising SAn Juan CR .So a non renewal of a visa to the USA is no surprise to me

"So a non renewal of a visa to the USA is no surprise to me "

It’s not a non-renewal it is the revocation of the VISA of the personal bodyguard of the president of the republic, not just some ordinary Juan del Pueblo, who lied on his application.

That Slap in the face to Lie-onel did not occur because his fat bodyguard did not pay double parking tickets in Washington Heights!

I think to risk embarrassing the president of another sovereign nation with whom you have friendly and full diplomatic and economic relations and possibly cause a diplomatic incident is not done unless he was found to be involved in some very, very, very serious negative activity.

The DR has to deal with these problems just like all other developing countries ..Visas to the USA are now not easy to obtain and are easy to lose ..
Actually the head of the Presidential Guard is the chief security officer , a general who always drives with the President ..and to my knowledge he has no problems with his VIsa anywhere

Presidential aides have US visas revoked

According to the US television channel in Spanish Univision, the US State Department has revoked visas from four people who work closely with President Leonel Fernandez.

The people involved are Victor Crispin Zorrilla, personal assistant to Fernandez and sub director of the National Investigations Department (DNI), General Hector Medina Medina, head of the Presidential security detail, the former head of the Armed Forces and the DNI, Manuel de Jesus Florentino Florentino and the former chief of Police and political adviser to the President, General Rafael Guillermo Guzman Fermin.

Univision's research department head Gerardo Reyes said that they have been trying to obtain reactions from those involved but have had no response to date. He stressed that there was no political agenda behind these revelations.

Hoy newspaper tried to obtain a statement from the US embassy in Santo Domingo but press attache Judith Ravin would only say that she could not provide information about individual cases to third parties due to the confidentiality involved with visas. She did say that the State Department has the right to revoke visas, which would happen if they received information indicating that the visa holder would not be admitted into the US, or would be ineligible for a visa if they applied now.
