Press Statement from Hillary Rodham Clinton, U.S. Secretary of State
Washington.- On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I am delighted to send best wishes to the people of the Dominican Republic as you celebrate the 168th anniversary of your independence this February 27.
The United States and the Dominican Republic share a lasting friendship based on strong economic, cultural, and historic ties. We are working together through the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative to confront common challenges, advance regional security and promote justice.
Together, we are promoting trade and investment through our partnership in the Dominican Republic-Central America-United States Free Trade Agreement. I commend the Dominican Republic for hosting the Pathways to Prosperity Ministerial last October, which I was pleased to attend with leaders from around the region to discuss ways to promote broader economic opportunities and social inclusion.
As you celebrate this special day, know that the United States stands with you. Best wishes for a peaceful and prosperous year ahead.

As an independent, with strong leanings for the libertarian movement, I wish you luck in your pursuit of a second term.
The second time around provides for a smaller "learning curve" for junior senators, and the American
voters could be in better hands, if you are triumphant in quest for an encore.
Try to lean a little more to the center, and wean yourself from the war hawks and defenders of big business interests, including defense related manufacturers, banks and health related for profit concerns.
The USA was in a big mess when you took office and now it seems like we are beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
The republicans do not yet have a credible and electable opponent, so rather than a jump into the abyss, I personally would consider a third party candidate, and as a second choice a second term for your administration.
Best Regards,
G
What did you think when he bailed out General Motors, but left their senior management in charge and holding the purse-strings?
The example of the bail outs of the automobile industry and even the banks, that have not cost the taxpayers ANYTHING, since the moneys loaned have been recuperated with interest, have been a plus for the Obama administration.
The saying that a new broom always sweeps better is debatable, in this case it was a wiser decision to leave the senior management calling the shots. Of course a politician is always thinking ahead of his future political donors, if I might inject.
I must be wearing my orthopedic shoes because I stand corrected. I thought it was a bail-out and not a loan. What would have happened if they defaulted? I had dealings with GM senior management in Detroit and was not impressed. I thought they should have brought some Japanese hot-shots to revamp the company.
What is Obama's vision for this island?
You are out of sync regarding the US auto giants. The new big shots come from diverse industries, some not even auto related. The USA is building better, more economical, and cheaper cars than the Japanese, at this time. Look at some of the GM and Ford products, they have the best of both worlds taking hints from the Japanese and the Germans.
The americans have learned a lot from the Jap manufacturing methods and "Kaisen", and better than that, have applied it to their automobile assembly lines. They know that they have to build a car or SUV that goes a minimum of 100K miles without falling apart or self destructing and be easy on gas, look good, be safe to drive, and be a pleasure to ride.
