Santo Domingo.- The Electoral Central Board (JCE) closed the voter register with 6,502,968 Dominican citizens eligible to cast their ballot in the May 20 elections for president and vice president.

The definitive list was provided Sunday to the recognized political parties, during an activity in the JCE auditorium, headed by its president Roberto Rosario.

In the ceremony, Electoral Registry director Luis Mariano Matos affirmed that the voting lists were purged, and provided details of the register’s content.

Saturday was a political demonstration day for the PLD in zona colonial and we have had them for both parties most weekends and many buses, guaguas and cars come into the streets ,,and the supporters rubbish the whole place,,piss against everyones homes and cars and create an appalling disturbance ..BUt the worst thing is to actually see the type of people who are rallying and leading the rallies ..no wonder we have such dreadful candidates if they are selected by a bunch of beer swilling , rowdy and dreadful looking people as are seen in these events .
It is just like the mobs in the french revolution ,,any one looking at all respectable is thrown to the outside

A bunch of thieves playing musical chairs with the Presidential seat. Too bad there's not areal Presidential canidate that would give the people the basics. Fixing the poor living conditions, poor sanitation, non drinkable water, and low wages would make a canidate the winner, hands down. Oops! Sorry. I was dreaming. Forgot they're a bunch of thieves!

Thanks for the link, Josean, a very interesting article.

I was not aware that the 1954 Concordat required Vatican approval before changing the Dominican electoral computer system, including having 2 representatives on the 4-member board. What divine foresight! Perhaps Leo's softening up the Vatican to get a post like Tony Blair?

It was heartwarming to see the photo of Leo's sincerely warm handshake with the leader of his enemy party. Now he can add bi-partisanship to his resume? A true statesman, above party politics. The "blue tie agreement" mentioned in the article must have been last year, since gray ties are the go this year.
