Santo Domingo.- While the Government Thursday called opposition PRD party presidential candidate Hipólito Mejía a liar, a hypocrite and inept, several of his supporters linked to major scandals were “pardoned” during president Leonel Fernandez’s two terms in office.

Investigative journalist Huchi Lora yesterday accused Mejia of being surrounded by “dossiers,” and Friday morning mentioned the cases of Pedro Julio (Pepe) Goico, in the Baninter bank scandal, Hector Rodriguez Pimentel, fired form the Dominican Agrarian Institute, and Amable Aristy, whose at least 10 years as head of the Dominican Municipal League were fraught with scandal.

“Mejia is surrounded by dossiers, but when you look close they were pardoned during this term in office,” the journalist said, adding that he made that same statement while interviewing senior PRD leader Emmanuel Esquea.

He also mentioned a close collaborator of Fernandez, San Juan province senator Felix Bautista, currently the center of a scandal in the construction of major works for Haiti’s Government. “When you see the that just one parking building for 1.2 billion pesos, full of structural faults, and his new found wealth, then the Government can’t go about accusing others of being corrupt.”

Lora’s statement referred to allegations by Presidency Chief staff Cesar Pina Toribio and Economy minister Themistocles Montas, who denied Mejía's accusation before the American Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday, that the Government has spent RD$2.0 billion of taxpayers money in ruling party candidate Danilo Medina’s campaign.

Jorge Blanco later posed as chronically ill, and was taken to the USA where he stayed away for many years, returning after Balaguer left office.

Most are Catholics but have never even read the Ten Commandments in their Holy Bible. They leave that to the clergy to tell them all they need to know for eternity in paradise.

There was a small political motorcade in the city-square last night. The led vehicle looked like a competition for a 70's discotheque - "Saturday Night Fever" - but much more boring, monotonous Hip Hop noise at 95 dB - but not one singe word of any policy. For example an intern at the local hospital recently received a very high mark, despite having almost zero attendance. However she had good family connections in the town.

‘’Where are 6,300 billion not delivered to education? Question the Coalition for a Dignified Education’’

SANTO DOMINGO (R. Dominicana).- Not only did the Government not transfer to the Ministry of education the 4,300 billion appropriated in the last year's supplementary budget, but it also did not transfer to the portfolio 2 billion which had been approved in the General budget, so that the non-compliance with the sector is double, this requires additional clarification of the fate of these funds said the Coalition for a Dignified Education.

In accord with the organization leading the fight for 4% of the gross domestic product to education, the Minister of education Josefina Pimentel confirmed not having received these resources approved by Congress and that it has affect the development of the operational plan of the Ministry.

Remember that in December 2010 at the conclusion of a meeting with President Leonel Fernandez at the National Palace, he pledged to increase investment in education during 2011 to 5 billion pesos, figure decreased to 4,300 billion when it was prepared as supplementary budget approved by Congress.

In the end, not only did Fernandez not comply with what was agreed in December 2010, they never sent the resources to MINERD that were approved by the Congress.

"The Dominican people deserve an explanation of what was done with these 6,788 billion pesos that designated for the benefit of Dominican children." "Why the Ministry of finance did not submit them to the Ministry of education and what did the Government do with this money," asked the coalition.

According to the data offered, the implementation of the budget for 2011 only reached the 1.82% of GDP when the law 66-97 stipulates 4% of GDP for pre-university education.

I am going to answer to Josean:
Acording to national Census Bureau , 18% of people of the Big Santo Domingo live on North Side of the city.

That means close to 400 thousand souls need a RELIABLE way of transportation NOW, not a 15 years project. If you were living in Villa Mella, in one of the dozens mountains packed with poor people , that you can see after crossing the Maximo Gomez bridge, I am positive that you would change that extremist point of view, and you would be waiving a purple flag right now.

Tell your people in NYC, that they shouldnt use the Metro to put $ in education. You will get the same answer on both sides.
For us that live overseas, it's impresive the development of Santo Domingo the last 8 years. It's like going to another country.

You should be thankful of having that kind of president, instead of speaking nonsense.
If you dont know what you are taking about, you shut your mouth up, lesson #1 of wisdom.

I'm not a Moreno "follower" however Moreno has one major thing going for him, he's not PLD and he's not Hippo. That does not make Josean "an extremist, or unpopular". I disagree with a lot of what he says, but he supports his arguments with evidence, and takes note of others. Leaning to the left is not a crime - I went through that phase myself when I was younger. You mean this type of progress:

"Young people in DR face multiple obstacles to employment"

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic.- According to the Ministry of Labor, more than 24 percent of young people in the country are unemployed, figure that many qualify as very high. Various strategies are used by young people to try to get a job in Dominican Republic, but in most of the cases they are in vain.

The obstacles facing young people to get a job are multiple. These joined with low salaries, are causing despair among youth.

Josy.. your exposition is just way pathetic..
