Santo Domingo.- The once powerful right wing PRSC party on Friday announced the ouster of senior leader and senator Amable Aristy, whose 2008 bid for the Presidency hinged on handouts of salamis, cash and live piglets.
PRSC senior leader Humberto Salazar said the party’s Permanent Presidential Council (CPP) took the decision on Castro’s alleged disrespect of the organization’s alliance with the ruling PLD’s presidential candidacy. “It’s a decision of the CPP which notified him and who rebelled against the resolutions of the last assembly.”
He said Article 11 of the PRSC statutes stipulates the automatic expulsion of those who assume positions contrary to the decisions of the leadership.
The expulsion comes just one day after Aristy announced that he had yet to decide on which of the campaigns he’ll support for the May 20 elections, and revealed meetings with opposition PRD party candidate Hipólito Mejía and with PLD president Leonel Fernandez, but whose details he didn’t disclose.
The senator for Altagracia province reportedly polled PRSC rank and file nationwide, in which Mejía had a considerable lead.

As I said before, the circus is in full swing gentlemen.
Amable deserves a lot of credit for a couple of things.
He knows what it takes to appeal to the average Dominican voter.
He made himself as rich as a king and never got punished.
He will continue to enrich himself in spite of all we know about him.
Seriously? Balaguer created the entitlement class in the D.R. The PRSC was never right wing.

This ouster was a long time coming. Recent reports of his having differences with the young bulls of the party was an indication of a house in disarray. His political behaviors were so outrageous, that it suggests he crossed Dominican standards of tolerance and callousness. He brought shame upon the party and it had to separate itself from him.
Next step will be calling an official investigation into his activities. He has only his own insider information to put the screws to those who would hang him out to dry. His party armor is gone.

And who can forget all those food baskets when campaigning for office. You are 100% correct. According to some friends of mine who lived in SD during the late 1960s to early 1970s, Balaguer also destroyed the university of Santo Domingo by allowing leftist turn-coats to get jobs "teaching" subjects they had no solid foundation in. The quality of the university decreased substantially.
Balaguer had only one mission in life: staying in power as Caudillo Maximus until the end. And anything that interfered with that mission was held in contempt. Be it modernity that might create a powerful Young Turk group in DR.

Unfortunately Amable and his daughter are forces to be reckoned with in the eastern part of the republic. To publicly humiliate him, no matter how well deserved, could prove to be costly to the Purple ones in that region.
