Santo Domingo.- The ex mayor of Bani, Julio Franjul was kidnapped at around 4pm Wednesday in the downtown offices, the local Police report.

Witnesses say four gunmen in a white Mitsubishi pickup took the former mayor from his downtown law offices, on the corner of Maximo Gomez and Independencia avenues, and sped off westward toward the city of Azua.

Police Regional commander general Juan Ramos de la Cruz Martinez said the driver, as yet unidentified, was arrested at a roadblock on the highway to Azua, and two of the assailants have been killed.

He said the fourth gunman is still on the loose, and elite Police units give chase in the mountains near San Jose de Ocoa..

They should have kidnapped the mayor of San Cristobal, Raul Mondesí - he must be worth squillions considering all he's stolen from the municipality.

Yes, Josean, there was none of this during Hippo's tenure, and crime will cease again if he is re-elected?

Roy, I live in Santiago and without question there were problems when HM was President. However, I have to say from my experience during his 4 years the quality of life was much better.

How often do you visit.? Where do you go?

This is a very strange kidnapping ,,why go after a man who is not in office ,,If I am not mistaken the current mayor has been in office most of the time over the past 25 years . Great swift response by the police and they deserve congratulations...and yes RoyStone Bani is like a paradise compared to san cristobal . Why do you live in such a hell hole ??

Not only do you have to watch your back for the common criminal element but also for Lie-onel Fernandez’s Criminal Political Police!

I wonder when they will begin to were Brown Shirts, although certain shades of PURPLE are similar to Brown!

Dr. Demetrius Wazar complains he was the victim of an attack

April 26, 2012

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic. –The native Ocoeño, Dr. Demetrio Wazar, reported Wednesday that he suffered an attack while returning from San Jose de Ocoa, as get out from his vehicle in front of his house in the area of Villa Juana, after that he decided to take refuge in the parish church Heart of Jesus in that sector.

Wazar Demetrius said he feared for his life since he returned from San Jose de Ocoa, because he was assaulted after displaying a banner with a protest message at an activity that President Leonel Fernandez was conducting in that area.

He explained that several weeks before the president visited the province of San José de Ocoa, his friends were allegedly paid by the intelligence service to reveal his location.

It is recalled that in 2010 Wazar conducted a hunger strike for the creation of the Office of the Ombudsman, among other claims.

I suppose if any PLD member dressed in purple protested in the centre of a PRD meeting they would receive the same treatment ,,probably much worse. Only a fool would behave in such a way not only in the DR but in many other countries .

So exercising your constitutionally protected right to demand redress of your grievances is being a fool?

Well in a Neo Fascist Failed Narco State you’re probably right but not in country that pretends to be a Democracy led by a "sophisticated democratic world leader," like your GOD Lie-onel The Perfect!

Yes, Ricky, I have been to Bani,
and the contrast with San Cristobal is indeed startling. Why is it so?
By the way, I did not choose San Cristobal, it chose me. Perhaps we deserve each other?

josean,
To paraphrase even further -
No.
However in 8 years there has been a population explosion at the least-educated end of society, an exodus to the USA from the other end, and worsening crises in Haiti forcing a massive influx of illegal immigrants.
These things wouldn't have happened had Hippo remained in power?

CarmenReyes,
I stayed in Santiago about 3 years ago.
Certainly the president has a lot of power and influence in the Dominican Republic. However it is an oversimplification to attribute too much of the conditions that prevail to their tenure. Some of the best times in my life were when Bob Hawke was Prime Minister of Australia, however I would never vote for the Labor Party.

So Roy, you are a better barometer of the happenings in Santiago as an occasional visitor than Carmen Reyes who lives there 24/7 365!

So I get it, she is to believe your Purple inspired rhetoric rather than her Lying Eyes!
