SANTO DOMINGO.- In an apparent reversal, the opposition PRD party on Thursday clarified that it doesn’t oppose the Central Electoral Board’s (JCE) resolution to simultaneously transmit polling results to the media and the political parties.

A PRD commission headed by General Secretary Orlando Jorge visited the JCE where it submitted a document stating that the letter sent by its presidential candidate Hipólito Mejìa, in their view agrees to maintain the measure.

In the letter the commissioners note that when Mejía "refers to institutional reasons," it’s about the Board’s decision through a Resolution and when he cites the "direct responsibility and involvement in the process," meant that the media were involved in the process via said Resolution, to bolster the confidence in the process and guarantee transparency.

"We prefer to believe that the ruling (PLD) party commissioners have misinterpreted the letter sent by the candidate and that it’s not a manipulation aimed at amending Resolution no. 07 of 2012, to adopt corrections and modifications which can affect the transparency of process," Jorge said.

Here's what's coming in the future (it doesn't matter who wins)

Paying much more for metro cars
In a letter addressed to Listin Diario columnist Orlando Gil, engineer Osiris de Leon writes that the Fernandez administration is paying much more for the Alstom metro cars compared to metro companies in China and Singapore. He says that in 2007, the 57 cars of line 1 were purchased for EUR1.6 million each, while the Shanghai metro purchased the same cars from the same companies at the time for EUR850,000 each.

For line 2 he says we are purchasing each metro car for US$3 million, while the Singapore metro purchased each unit for US$1.5 million.

JuanB,
