I cannot actually believe that Mejia has a snowball chance in hell of winning based on, if nothing else, his past record as president of this country. He did everything short of dropping a nuclear bomb on this country the last time he was president. He literally destroyed this country economically, socially and educationally. The fact that he has even 10% of the vote only goes to show the amount of acceptable ignorance tolerated in this country. These poles only reflect the fact that a national overhaul of the public educational system is not only needed it is but is absolutely essential in making any progress in the 21st century and beyond.

The reason Hippo is doing so well is because of three very simple factors that have absolutely nothing to do with him:
1. Supper Corruption crystalized visually for the public in the Figure of Felix Bautista,
2. The feeling the public has of social insecurity because of the high crime rate and high unemployment,
3. The over playing of their political hand by the PLD controlling all three branches of government and the public fear of a “constitutional’ dictatorship.
From: Dominican Republic
@ josean, I understand all that but that clown will not change anything any more than the other jester will. They then asked him about the metro , and he said dont even get me started on that ! , you know how I feel about that already ? hippo said he will discontinue the funding on that , because it is to costly for the state and government . They then asked him about the education problem , and hippo said that will be his number one priority with his administration , and that he will mandate 5 percent funding on education , and unlike the pld he wont turn a blind eye on it. Dont know what to make all this but whoever is president , will have some important decisions to make.

Josean,
You claim to be a big fan of Guillermo Moreno and supposedly not a big fan of the Hippo or the PLD. I find it interesting however that you only focus on the wrongdoings of the PLD (you don't shut up with the Felix Bautista bs) and are not an equally harsh critic as you should be of Hipoloco. What do you make of the whole Quirino and Pepe Goico charades under Hipolito? How about the Marbella scandal with Miguel Vargas? What do you make of the recent trip Hipolito made to Sinaloa, Mexico? Do you think he was there to exchange Dominican rum for tequila? How about the fact that Hipoloco's government was the one who least invested in education? I know that this administration has not done much better in that regard but you should really be a more balanced critic. By no means am I here to vouch for the PLD, but anyone on here who thinks the PRD and Hipoloco are the solution deserves to be called a world-class idiot and unfortunately too many Dominicans are proving this to be true.

benwaballs,
My observations precisely.
I disagree with Josean.
I do not believe Hippo is in the running because of the ineptitude and corruption of the PLD, (despite the fact they unarguably are) but rather the stupidity, poor memory and self-interest (against the national interest) for a significant proportion of the voting population. The structure of the voting system, (effectively 1st-past-the-post) makes it almost possible for the emergence of a 3rd party or candidate, no-matter how competent or inspiring. The choice is still, stay in the frying-pan or jump into the fire.

Usually I don’t answer questions with other questions but in this case I think it will be appropriate!
Simple questions;
Who has been in power for the last MISERABLE Narco 8 Years?
Who is Guillermo and ever body else running against?
Who has disproportionate control of all three branches of the Dominican “government?"
Who are the objective rational people more in fear of Hippo or the "constitutional" Super Corrupt Purple Dictatorship that has spread our tax dollars thought Latin America to fund and support the personal enrichment?

Josean,
Why did you not answer the questions I posed about Hipoloco? I am not surprised you took the route you took of avoidance. I honestly believe you are really a Hipoloco supporter under the guise of being a "fervent supporter" of Guillermo Moreno, who's not going anywhere as good as he may be. You always evade Hipoloco criticisms when confronted with them. And, you can claim that these last 8 years have been narco-years and I'm not totally disagreeing with you in that regard, as their is truth to that statement. However, Hipoloco's gov't was a narco government all the way around and he directly consorts with narcos and if you don't want to see it, it is you that doesn't want to accept reality. The biggest narco president has been and will be Hipoloco. You probably will claim to not believe he knew nothing about Figuero Agosto either when it was in fact the Hippo who warned the now slain owner of La Francesa bakery that he would be killed. I wonder "how" the Hippo knew that.

Let's not play naive now. Why hasn't Leonel formulated charges against Hippo for all his wrongdoings? The same reason Obama hasn't prosecuted Bush and Dick Cheney. Let's make this clear: Politicians are dirtbags and politics is a very dirty game. Leonel and the PLD are not the exception. If your only rebuttal to what I have stated about Hipoloco is that "if it were true then why..." then you've got some serious deniability issues. All these politicos cover each other up in the long run. The fact that they "attack" each other while campaigning is only a strategy to gain votes and then they go out for drinks and secret meetings later...DUH. Leonel may have a narco-government as you say but let's just say the Hippo invented the whole scheme and has shown no signs that he has changed. Regardless of what some has been, or self serving TV journalist opinion is, my own is as follows:
Being in situ in my beloved DR, and after hearing the opinions of dozens of well informed persons, regarding the coming May 20 TH elections, my conclusions are:
None of the two major candidates would be an improvement of the "status quo" of the DR, for obvious reasons, too extensive to narrate here.
I would suggest to those persons that are undecided to vote for:
1. Max Puig
2. Guillermo Moreno
In that order of preference.

Te gusta más el chisme que una vieja sin Tabaco!
Did you here Lie-onel and his Puppet Danilo plan to let Felix Bautista "The International Thief "continue Stealing for 4 more years if other supporters of corruption like you vote them in again!
benwaballs,
The reason Hippo is doing so well is because of three very simple factors that have absolutely nothing to do with him:
1. Supper Corruption crystalized visually for the public in the Figure of Felix Bautista,
2. The feeling the public has of social insecurity because of the high crime rate and high unemployment,
3. The over playing of their political hand by the PLD controlling all three branches of government and the public fear of a “constitutional’ dictatorship.
benwaballs,hellborn25,
As a related side note you open minded gentlemen my enjoy reading this:

"Between you and me"
"Leonel and Felix: the perfect pairing"
"President Leonel Fernandez and Senator Felix Bautista were made for each other. In light of the fact they knew each other before they reached the National Palace in 1996, one can say that they are the perfect pairing of personal progress."
"Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I cannot see another pair of politicians that has catapulted from poverty to wealth with the speed that they have done so in the history of the country nor in the ranks of the PLD as has the President and the Secretary of organization of the Dominican Liberation Party. Needless to say that in the private sector is not possible to find a Duet like that."

Did you forget how expensive everything was under Hipoloco and how the Dominican currency was even more worthless that what it is now? How about all the PRD funcionarios that illegally owned lands and funds from the state?
Simple questions;
Ni por lo moraos, ni por el burro, mi voto va pa Max Puig. El y Guillermo Moreno son los unicos que sirven de 'toito ellos.
Josean knows full well that there are only two real contenders in this election. Since he is so critical of the frying-pan, your conclusion that he is in favor of jumping into the fire, is a valid one.
JEM237,
I am not avoiding you questions at all; I just don’t think they are relevant but you are like the Republicans you still want to talk about Clinton and not Bush although he has been in power for 11 years.
Hippo was in power in 2000/04 and the Narco-PLD has been in power since them, with unprecedented control ant and borrowing money at levels never seeing in Dominican history and kids are still taking a couple of hours of class , if lucky, under mango trees even in the “Modern “METROLANDIA Capital.
This election is referendum on the recent 8 Narco PLD years Hippo already had his referendum in 2004 and lost!
"However, Hipoloco's gov't was a narco government all the way around and he directly consorts with narcos and if you don't want to see it, it is you that doesn't want to accept reality. The biggest narco president has been and will be Hipoloco. You probably will claim to not believe he knew nothing about Figuero Agosto either when it was in fact the Hippo who warned the now slain owner of La Francesa bakery that he would be killed. I wonder "how" the Hippo knew that."
JEM237,
If what you have stated is true then why hasn't Lie-onel Fernandez in 8 YEARS formulated charges?
Why isn't Danilo saying that one second after he is sworn in he will have Hippo arrested?
JEM237,
Do you or anybody in the world have a cashed canceled check that Hippo got made out in his name from an International Drug dealer for 500,000 pesos?
I mean, did you just purposely ignore what I told you about Hippo's meeting in Sinaloa? Quirino? Pepe Goico? Figuero Agosto? Vargas?
JEM237,
You might be able to help me.
Do you know if Hippo ever lent $36,000,000 million US dollars of taxpayer’s money to an International Spanish Drug lord to build a Narco-Tower, while claiming not to have money to fund EDUCATION at the constitutional mandated 4%, since you seem to have so much "factual" insider information?
"Hippo's meeting in Sinaloa?"
Wouldn't the DEA be interested in that; if he met with Narcos as you seem to want to imply?
Why don't you drop a dime, but be careful because he also met with Carlos Slim!
" Quirino? Pepe Goico? Figuero Agosto? Vargas?"
JEM237,
Why doesn't Lie-onel Fernandez contact the governments, US and Spain, who have an interest or have these men in thee custody, and inquire about Hippos and Vargas "involvement" under the Dominican's governments interest obtain possible information to criminally charge Hippo and Vargas?
Wouldn't that be the responsible thing to do?
Why doesn't Danilo at least make that a campaign promise?
Hippo said he is going to go after every corruption lead presented to him!
I hope the DEA IS interested in that and hopefully they are operating as they did with Quirino; follow all his movements for a while then go in for the big win. Of course I am not surprised that you went for the obvious Carlos Slim "meeting" with the Hippo. Yes, of course you believe that. Why don't you tell me that it's also a coincidence that Julio Cespedes Martinez, whom has very close ties to the Hippo, happens to be linked to the Sinaloa Cartel, where the Hippo made a "business trip" only to meet with Mr. Slim, according to you.
"Why don't you tell me that it's also a coincidence that Julio Cespedes Martinez"
Because I don't know who the hell this guy is or if in fact that meeting took place..
However I think a few people in the world know Carlos Slim and do you think his people would allow him to meet with Hippo if he was hot as you claim.
Please provide whatever information; you have on Mr.Julio Cespedes Martinez, I would be more than happy to review it and comment.
PS
You seem to be the one not answering questions and spinning balls of yarn in all different directions to obfuscate, but that’s ok!

airgordo,
Thank you many of us have been saying that for 4 years!

"Yvonne: "we're losing the freedoms conquered with sacrifices" "
The lady expresses the SENTIMENT and FEAR of the GREAT MAJORITY of rational think Democracy loving Dominicans!
That's why Hippo is doing so well!
"The popular actress and TV presenter decided to support the candidature of Hipólito Mejía"
"SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic.-Hipólito Mejía, President of the Dominican Revolutionary Party candidate, received the backing of the outstanding Communicator and Dominican actress Ivonne Beras Goico."
In a brief ceremony at the offices of the PRD’s presidential candidate, the versatile artist of radio and television was received by the former president. Ivonne Beras Goyco said she was concerned with the course in which the country is being led, so she has decided to provide her support to the candidacy of Mejía, since it is the best option to stop the moral and economic deterioration that the Dominican nation is being carried to.
Continued:
"As a citizen, I am very concerned with what our country is going through, and I just can’t remain with my arms crossed before this stark reality," she said.
She said that we are losing the freedoms conquered with so many sacrifices by our ancestors and and so many people can’t remain indifferent and allow that to happen.
She called on all sectors and citizens who aspire to a better future, to close ranks with the candidacy of former President Hipólito Mejía, "to search for a better country, but for all".
acento.com
Being in situ in my beloved DR, and after hearing the opinions of dozens of well informed persons, regarding the coming May 20 TH elections, my conclusions are:
None of the two major candidates would be an improvement of the "status quo" of the DR, for obvious reasons, too extensive to narrate here.
I would suggest to those persons that are undecided to vote for:
1. Max Puig
2. Guillermo Moreno
In that order of preference.
Professor,
Max Puig drank from the Purple Trough of corruption for quite a while before being born again to "honesty!"
Guillermo on the other hand left the Purple Latrine very early before the Septic tank began to errupt with Narco-corruption!
So the ONLY choice in this election is Guillermo Moreno!
Not according to JP Morgan Chase one of the favorite banks of the PLD!
"JP Morgan Chase sees no economic risk after elections may"
"SANTO DOMINGO (Dominican Republic).-financial conglomerate JP Morgan Chase said that after the May 20 elections the risk is low for the Dominican economy, no matter who wins the elections."
"The document, circulating since this morning, takes a "bucket of cold water" to the Government attempt to sell the idea that Hipólito Mejía would be the "back to the uncertain"."
“The document represents the understanding by the business community that manages the sovereign bonds of the country of the great possibilities of triumph by Hipólito Mejía.”

EXACTLY...I find it so amazing that you don't know who Julio Cespedes Martinez is as well as just about anything negative about El Burro de Gurabo. I see no need to provide you with any information as I'm sure you are capable of doing your own research, just as you do when you want to provide your anti-Leonel posts, etc. I also find it ironic that you seem to be such a champion for prioritizing education yet you are all for the candidate whose government LEAST invested in education and not to mention that Hipoloco is someone who continuously spews the dumbest, most embarrassing statements (Obama es un negro de Africa, A Miguel que se vaya atender la loca de su mujer, al que no le guste que se vaya pal carajo just to name a few) that his supporters want to defend as humorous and conveniently brushing off his ignorance. Can you say hypocrite?
I took 24 hours to think of some thing to write? But that's ok!
Todos somos de Africa!
I knew you would cop-out regarding your rectally produced innuendo regarding Julio Cespedes Martinez!
The PLD loves to make up lies and throw mud they can’t back up like Wilton Guerrero and his Lie about a Narco Mexicans, Columbians and the PRD plotting to kill Nuria.
"it took me 24 hours to reply back to you; I have a job, a career and a life...maybe you should try getting one or all three"
The old “I am to busy defense” when I can't answer a questions because I was caught making things up!
I bet you were the kid in school that used to say to the teacher, "The Dog ate my homework!"

Max Puig aboga por sanción ejemplar a corruptos
Moca
