Santo Domingo.- A survey disclosed Monday by Hamilton Campaigns found that Dominican Republic’s ruling PLD party presidential candidate Danilo Medina would win the May 20 elections with 51% of the votes over opposition PRD party rival Hipólito Mejia’s 44%.
The poll conducted from April 11 to 15 also said minority Al-Pais party candidate Guillermo Moreno and Eduardo Estrella of the DxC, would both get 1% each.
The Hamilton survey also found that of the 50% of the voters who approve president Leonel Fernandez’s job performance, 14% called it good and 36% excellent.
Hamilton Campaign president David Beattie, who announced the results in a press conference in the Holiday Inn hotel, said 1,200 eligible voters were interviewed in the nationwide poll, whose margin of error is 2.8%.

“This work was compiled by a Acento.com news team, conducted over a period of several months, which includes the participation of a team of specialists in cost calculations of this type. The government has NO INFORMATION PUBLICLY available on these trips”

On these trips the President has sought investments in the Dominican Republic, has signed cooperation agreements, obtained grants to support efforts by international organizations and has served as mediator in conflicts in the region, such as cases of coup Honduras or the breakdown of relationships and possible armed conflict between Colombia and Venezuela.
A thorough investigation of the president's trips, with details of each of these trips, his speeches, passengers and aircraft movements on commercial and private, has been conducted by Acento.com.do an effort requiring collaboration for several months with specialist in this area to determine the costs of each of these trips.
2010 was the year that the president made the most trips with 13 trips abroad, which represents more than one trip per month. In 2004 he only traveled five times, but it must be taken into account that he took office in August. This means that between August and December he traveled once a month.

In total, the 70 trips have kept the president out of the country for 392 days. We must take into account the intensity of the Dominican foreign policy, and economic realities of the country. The costs per year
According to estimates, in 2004 he spent $ 1.4 million, in 2005 5.6 million, expenditures in 2006 reached 4.5 million and 4.8 million in 2007. Travel expenditures in 2008 reached 5.3 million and for 2009, there was duplication, spending $ 10.5 million. In 2010 the cost fell to $ 7.2 million, in 2011 it rose to 9.1 million and so far in 2012, with only two trips he has spent $ 634 000.
Given the absence of official information, to calculate the costs the team that worked with Acento.com.do, established cost parameters based on per day and per week expenditures for the president's trips.
Internal transport for the president, first lady, foreign minister and other minister’s companions a cost of at a total of US$150 per day was established. For expenses in restaurants the standards were set at: US$ 500 per day for the president and US$ 400 for the first lady per day and US$ 300 for ministers, special guests and journalists.

Tiempo al tiempo. The PLD has done MORE for the development and modernization of the DR than the PRD.
With another 12 years of rule, 2024, the DR will have undergone a transformation that will leave many here simply without words to describe their wonder. But it doesn't and will not come without some pain. Even in republics that have undergone positive improvements, think the ex-socialist Czech Republic and Hungary, you still have significant groups that feel "left out" of the general upward trend occurring in their nation. Not all boats float alike and some become big winners while others see their prospects diminish. Also, the ones that most benefit are the younger generations, not the ones who were in their late 20's and 30's when the transformation began. No one can promise you that everything will be alright and that all boats will rise in these massive changes; the old attitudes of having government provide for everything IS VERY difficult to break.

Say what you will about Leonel's travel BUT the facts are that The Dominican Republic NEEDED FAR MORE INTERNATIONAL EXPOSURE.
From the old Trujillo dictatorship into the Balaguer Era, the Dominican Republic was a largely disconnected and very low profile nation. Many more people in the world have heard of Haiti than the DR. The provincialism and old attitudes of keeping the nation in this low international exposure worked against the modernization and development of the DR. And Leonel and the PLD have done a far better job of establishing modern connections between the DR and the outside world. But old attitudes and provincialism die hard and there are many Dominicans that see outside connections with dread.
The winners in this Globalized world system are those that meet the challenges of today and tomorrow with effort and determination.

What worries me about the latest Gallup poll?
By Haroldo Dilla Alfonso
The latest Gallup poll /Hoy, which places the PLDP as a favorite to win this election in the first round was for me a cold shower, but also a source of many concerns.
In the first sense, because if the PLDP wins this election, that is, if the corrupt clique that has hijacked the party and all the popular sovereignty wins this election, then we will lose all, even the PLD
If anything is clear is that Danilo Medina is a companion piece to the existing corrupt reactionary and socially insensitive machinery that occupies all national powers in what has been reported as the begining of a constitutional dictatorship. And it is. In addition, a minor piece, for what remains important is the current president and his desire of continuity.

There is nothing that makes me doubt, a priori, the honesty of Gallup. I have not had access to the data sheet, so I cannot evaluate the quality of procedures, especially sampling, resulting in a survey point of all evil and all good. And although there are some very dubious information-such as the PLD’s majority support in the East, my main problem with this survey is its incompatibility with the palpable pulse of the times.
The candidate Danilo Medina, committed to the core with the worst tendencies of the current government should not have emerged stronger from the scandals that have been shaking the main figures of the ruling party, and inching ever closer to the current president. Who, the final analysis, is ultimately the main figure in this election’s tertiary side of purple.

Not only because the scandals are very serious but because their nature suggest that they systemic powerful hands, to say the least. I always say that Nixon was not removed by the Watergate scandal, but the Watergate scandal became public because Nixon had to resign. And Obama won not because he was charismatic, but the country needed a change that allowed him to display his charisma. And same thing is happening here. Despite the millions accumulated and the use of public money to buy wills, the PLD government has become dysfunctional for the system itself. And you have to replace it. It's too corrupt, arrogant, insensitive and backward. It is a threat to governance.

The other situation that makes me doubt the survey is the desperation demonstrated PLD leaders. Two weeks ago it was a ridiculous show of by the Foreign Ministry denouncing Pepe Goico, but with the consent of the President. Then the plot of bad taste by four members of Miguel Vargas camp, who clearly act as a sort of "external group" at the service of the PLD. And finally, the grotesque showing by the Senator from Bani announcing a “narco-pepeachista" plot to murder a journalist.
This is the type of despair that is only shown by LOSERS.

So forget about it Josean!!!
This is not 1930 - There are certain Dominicans that can see beyond and realized we can be a better country - no perfect, but at least trying.
If Leonel travelled that many times - Good for him - that's what executive do when they need to create business for their company...travel as much as they can to meet different business opportunities. As a result, VPs, Directors, Managers, and ultimately employees are responsible for running the business when the big wig is not around.
Oh, I forgot...you think this is the 1930s, where while workers worked the land, the patron was always around directing and beating on their workers if they slacked...right?

Much has been made today by some of the Purple Clapping Seals at DT that the PRD represents the 1930s so how do these sycophants explain this endorsement:
“Leadership of the VED in full, leave the PLD and join with Mejia”
“SANTO DOMINGO (Dominican Republic). - Practically in full, the Dominican Student Vanguard (VED), appendix to the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), resigned from the ruling political organization to support the presidential candidacy of Hipólito Mejía, the opposition Party Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD).”
“In a ceremony in the auditorium Manuel del Cabral, Pedro Mir Library of the Univerisdad Autonoma de Santo Domingo (UASD), hundreds of graduates VED members witnessed the signing of an agreement between the director of the student movement and Mejia.”
The document, in which the PRD candidate commits to a series of specific actions, was signed by Mejia and Hamlet Guzman, for the VED.'

Among the things agreed to with Mejia is a commitment to greater support for education, but above all, "not to defraud the UASD" as the students understand this what the PLD government has done.
The document was entitled "A quality EDUCATION and without CORRUPTION."

And it is. In addition, a minor piece, for what remains important is the current president and his desire of continuity.
continued:
Who, the final analysis, is ultimately the main figure in this election’s tertiary side of purple.
continued:
Not only because the scandals are very serious but because their nature suggest that they systemic powerful hands, to say the least. I always say that Nixon was not removed by the Watergate scandal, but the Watergate scandal became public because Nixon had to resign. And Obama won not because he was charismatic, but the country needed a change that allowed him to display his charisma. And same thing is happening here. Despite the millions accumulated and the use of public money to buy wills, the PLD government has become dysfunctional for the system itself. And you have to replace it. It's too corrupt, arrogant, insensitive and backward. It is a threat to governance.
continued:
The other situation that makes me doubt the survey is the desperation demonstrated PLD leaders. Two weeks ago it was a ridiculous show of by the Foreign Ministry denouncing Pepe Goico, but with the consent of the President. Then the plot of bad taste by four members of Miguel Vargas camp, who clearly act as a sort of "external group" at the service of the PLD. And finally, the grotesque showing by the Senator from Bani announcing a “narco-pepeachista" plot to murder a journalist.
This is the type of despair that is only shown by LOSERS.

DANILO RESIDENTE 2012-2042
So forget about it Josean!!!
This is not 1930 - There are certain Dominicans that can see beyond and realized we can be a better country - no perfect, but at least trying.
If Leonel travelled that many times - Good for him - that's what executive do when they need to create business for their company...travel as much as they can to meet different business opportunities. As a result, VPs, Directors, Managers, and ultimately employees are responsible for running the business when the big wig is not around.
Oh, I forgot...you think this is the 1930s, where while workers worked the land, the patron was always around directing and beating on their workers if they slacked...right?
Time evolves, ppl evolve, and right the PURPLE party is our evolution out of the 1930s
No more PATRON like GOVERNMENT!!
Atabey you don't have to use one of many PSEUDONYMS like JPDTrinity, everybody knows you PURPLE down to your G-string!
Continued:
Among the things agreed to with Mejia is a commitment to greater support for education, but above all, "not to defraud the UASD" as the students understand this what the PLD government has done.
The document was entitled "A quality EDUCATION and without CORRUPTION."
