Santo Domingo.- Amid heightened security measures in the heels of a bottle thrown at him Sunday in the Villas Agricolas sector, president Leonel Fernandez headed a walk-motorcade through several greater Santo Domingo barrios Monday to support the Danilo Medina-Margarita Cedeño ticket for the presidency.
A man now under arrest hurled a bottle at the chief executive’s vehicle, injuring ruling PLD party leader Virgilio Liriano, who needed four stitches to his face.
Though campaign motorcades usually allow throngs to approach the President, the incident has led to stricter security near the vehicles, where people with beverages in glass bottles are asked to step back to the sidewalk until the chief executive passes.

For his Personal safety Lie-onel should limit his outings to travels on the METRO since “millions” of commuters use it.
It will have the added benefits of not putting less miles on his super expensive Land Cruiser Jeepeta paid for by the money he steal from the Dominican Children’s EDUCATION plus all the diesel fuel saved and less contamination of Cuidad Fernandez’s air!

“The Broad Front (Frente Amplio) calls for JCE prohibit Leonel participation campaign”
SANTO DOMINGO.-The Broad Front asked the Central Electoral Board prohibit President Leonel Fernandez from participating in this political campaign.
The request was made by the political organization in a document delivered to the Electoral Court.
The document requested that officials who are participating in the ongoing process to take a license in their functions.
They said that the statements of the presidential candidate of the PLD, Danilo Medina, that his victory is assured from the first bulletin, violates articles 127 and 146-2 of the Constitution, which leads to the crime of perjury.
The Frente Amplio requests that the JCE should designate a Committee composed of members of that body for the purpose of ensuring compliance with the requirements laid down in the Constitution and the laws.

President was not in danger
Following an incident during President Leonel Fernandez' parade last Sunday, 29 April, when a man was hit by a glass bottle, Police spokesman General Maximo Baez Aybar said that there are now three people in custody. They are Juan Carlos Jimenez Rodriguez, 32, and 47 and 42 year old brothers Olmedo and Julio Cesar Marte.
He reiterated that Fernandez was never in physical danger, saying that the Police had taken measures according to the procedures that have been established for these types of situations.
According to Hoy newspaper, a PLD member, Virgilio Liriano jumped up to see the President and was hit by the bottle. According to witnesses, a member of the President's security detail hit Liriano on the head with the butt of his gun, but Liriano later denied this and said the wound was caused by the bottle.

The neighbors of the other people who were arrested stated that they had not attended the parade and were not involved in political activity, but admitted they had been smoking marijuana in the garden of PLD executive Manuel Valencia.
Valencia confirmed that they had been at his house and had nothing to do with the bottle-throwing incident.
A sister of one of the people arrested, Fiordaliza Marte, said that the police had told her they would only be charged with possession of drugs and not for the alleged aggression.
