Santo Domingo.- The Catholic Church yesterday asked citizens to vote with awareness in Sunday’s elections as well as pray so once the electoral competition concludes, “the will of the people, expressed in the ballot boxes is respected by all the political parties and their respective candidates.”

In a statement issued Monday, the Dominican Episcopate Conference also called on the catholic faithful to a day of prayer and reflection on Saturday, the day before the elections for the Presidency and Overseas deputies.

“We urge all Dominicans so that we participate in a massive way with enthusiasm exerting the right to vote during the next elections, that we do so in a peaceful and ordinate manner. That we do it peacefully, freely and for the candidate of our choosing,” the bishops said.

The church is trying to turn down the heat on the political fires. However, because it is not handing out inducements to behave, in the form of chickens, pigs, food baskets, and 100 Peso bills to the voting public, it will fall on deaf ears. The poor think and vote with their stomachs.

Since when has the Catholic Church respected the will of the people? It has has its dirty hand in politics for centuries, especially in the Dominican Republic.

Roy don’t be so hard on the PETRI-DISH for Pedophiles!

Like you they supported the "investment" of $2,000,000,000 US dollars on the USELESS METRO so they could keep EDUCATION underfunded and maintain their Monopoly of indoctrination with the their Dark Ages Curriculum!

josean,

So had the government not spent 2 billion on the Metro, they would have spent it on education? I'll believe in talking snakes and virgin births before I believe that.
