Santo Domingo.- The opposition PRD party is making make last minute efforts to attract its estranged president Miguel Vargas back to the fold, just five days to the presidential election.
The effort began in a La Vega rally yesterday when PRD candidate Hipólito Mejía joined Vargas’ siblings Janet and Tony Rivera, who called on his brother to return “body and soul” to the campaign.
The latest push came Tuesday morning when PRD Organization secretary Geanilda Vasquez affirmed that Vargas “has made valuable contributions to the campaign of Hipólito Mejía, and moreover hasn’t incurred in a single action or declaration which detracts any vote.”
She said Vargas “has done what corresponds him, giving the financial resources and conducting a national campaign promoting the vote for number 1 of the electoral ticket,” which features Mejia’s photo.
She said the Holy Bible teaches that people are known by their actions, for which Vargas has defended the party’s interests and has logically been positive for the electoral campaign.
Mejia and Vargas parted ways after the PRD convention last year, when the latter accused the candidate of fraudulent tactics.

Now I have heard everything............it is always convenient to pull on God's tail during times of need.
Nevertheless, we can certainly know all about Vargas, simply by his past actions indeed. Judge not by what others say, but by what they do.
Vargus distancing himself from Hipolito makes a statement about his views of the candidate and the candidate's platform.
Yet, I assume this has more to do with his setting himself up to be the PRD candidate for the presidential campaign of 2016. He suspects Hipolito will fail to gain the presidential throne in the upcoming election and the people will be subject to four more years in the PLD nest. Then, after four years of PLD his conclusion will be the people will have had enough and be ripe to elect a PRD candidate. Guess who ? It won't be Hipolito.
Vargas has done more damage to the PRD than any other single person. The lies and deceit of those currently in power, the paid stooges on this and other forums, no one has come close to hurting their party as much as Vargas.
I hope that when he tries to be the next nominee of the PRD that its members remember what a traitor he was/is.
Vargas just reflect the same feelings that the rest of dominicans have to Hipoloco..

Cara de perro Maldonado have been true to his word when he stated at the end of his candidacy in a bitter dispute with hipoburro that HM will wins or lose the election without him. Nevertheless Maldonado have been a good ingrate. Everything he got is thanks to Hipoburro. He was a nobody before hipoburro in fact a few years after hipoburro won the election he was building an 800 Million Pesos villa in Hyguel.
Scum bag is written all over the face of Miguel Maldonado. If he were a candidate and elected president, it would be like handing over cheese to the mouse for safe keeping with the hopes he won't eat it.
