Santo Domingo. – Sunday’s elections will be pit the two parties both founded by Dominican Republic’s most prolific writer and ex president Juan Bosch, and the two have governed each 12 during 24 years and likely win the polling again.
Both the opposition PRD founded in 1939 and the ruling PLD in 1973 have gravitated from a leftist ideology to the center, and faced off for the first time as the major parties in 1996, when the latter won for the first time, with the support of then president Joaquin Balaguer.
Since president Leonel Fernandez’s first win in 1996, the PRD has held office only once, from 2000 to 2004, with its current candidate Hipolito Mejia beating current PLD candidate Danilo Medina by a wide margin.
The PRD has held office from February to September 1963, 1978 to 1986, and from 2000 to 2004, whereas the PLD has been in power from 1996 to 2000, and from 2004 to present.

Nobody can surely forecast the outcome, but the way I we see it Medina and his allies will probably win with a comfortable margin of 6% of the votes (out of a possible universe of 4.5 million voters), and win in the first round. The final outcome should look like this:
PRD- 2,025,000 votes for 45% of total votes counted.
PLD-2,295,000 votes for 51% of total votes counted
Other parties- 4% of the votes for 180,0000 votes counted.
I will also predict that unless the percentages are extremely close, that the losers will accept the final outcomes, and concede.

If anyone were to have read the article above they would arrive at the conclusion that these two parties are fundamentally the same. Neither party offers a tangible difference.
If both parties were founded by the same member of the nation's intelligentsia;
If both advocate similar socialist (reborn as neo-socialism) ideology, yet live just like the bourgeoisie they claim they dislike (and claim they will replace);
They are the same thing.
Therefore it really doesn't matter who wins since it will be one of Juan Bosch's godchildren that will control the country, and will govern in the same manner..
Like they say in certain areas of the US:
SAME DIFFERENCE!
Or in Dominicanese:
