Santo Domingo.- Presumptive president elect Danilo Medina said he wants to restore the friendship he affirms having with defeated rival Hipolito Mejía and his family, calling him a worthy opponent.

In Monday’s celebration speech at ruling PLD party headquarters, Medina said Mejía should feel good because the process confirmed his national leadership and stressed his respect.

He thanked the allied parties, his ticket mate Margarita Cedeño and the Dominican people, pledging to will work so that the wealth he affirms the PLD has created in the last few years can reach the population.

He said he’ll work to boost foreign investment and to support the productive sectors including farming, tourism, free zones and small and medians companies, with a pact to expand the internal market.

Medina said he’ll work to establish a free trade pact with Haiti, which he called Dominican Republic’s top trading partner. He said he’ll also work for the children, youngsters and women, without who his win wouldn’t have been possible.

Noting the searing sun, Medina concluded his speech. ”This sun has new batteries, there’ll be plenty of time to continue speaking.”

I hope he truly keeps his promise, because our county is in complete shambles. He can start by putting everyone who paid for votes and offered citizens cell phones, refrigerators and TV’s to the people, so that they would vote him in jail. Yes this is the sad truth I was approached and so was some of my family in the USA.

All standard post-election cliches.
The Hippo "a worthy opponent"? Worthy of what? It is an indictment of the country that he was even a candidate, let alone getting almost half of the votes.
So where was Miss Piggy at the final moments of the campaign, AWOL? Still had some shopping to catch up on while in Boston? Trying to break her husband's record for absenteeism while in office?

Ok...i stand a bit corrected....Haiti is our 3rd largest export market.

Just behind Korea and ahead of Australia...are Haiti's imports to the country....#39 of 50!

For exports.....they rank #2 behind the USA. Which means we have lots to sell them...and not much to get back other than extended loans unlikely to get paid.

I'm concerned about josean, he seemed to be the top contributor to DT and my favorite entertainer. Maybe he committed suicide, or something worse."

He's trying to get paid by the Hippo people. But they only offer Hippo dung as payment.

Atabey,
He can sell the dung to RonEvane, who can then use in his sludge-digestor, then sell the electricity back to the government, then use the money to set up his brewery with Stillhere?

as in the past in about 2-3 weeks or so every one on the island will want a new pres and get this guy out of office.

or who knows? maybe all will have 24/4 luz, education for the young and all the bums who have fraud on their mindes will be cast out from the government.
la- la land that just might never change why? take a look at plaza central in santo domingo the rob the luz they have all the money in the world at their finger tips but still steal.
its in the blood that black blood that flows within.

"@Roy, is not about the past about the now and our future! and I'm sure this both are going to do a great job!"

I know Dominicans have short memories (as the election proved) but when the vice-presidential candidate is absent in the final days of the election campaign (and maybe still is) it is hardly ancient history. How can you "be sure" Margarita will "do a great job" when she hasn't even shown up for work on her first day! (Two Jesus' is already two too many.)

My understanding is Danelo won with an absolute majority - he has a clear mandate, (not a "man-date") so why is he kissing the Hippo's ass? The country needs a tough president not a Mr Bipartisan-Niceguy!

The schools are ranked based on six components: graduation rate; college matriculation rate; the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate and Advanced International Certificate of Education tests taken by students; the average scores from those tests; average SAT and ACT scores; and the number of AP courses offered per student.

The top ten schools are all charter schools, magnet schools or schools that have selective enrollment or enrollment based on a lottery, according to the list. All but two of the top 25 have 100 percent graduation rates.

RATED THE BEST 1,000 HIGH SCHOOLS IN THE US.
MANY HAVE A 100% GRADUATION RATE
WONDER NOW MANY OF THE YOUNG THAT RIDE PRES LEOS CHOO= CHOO TRAIN HAVE A CHANCE AT GRADUATION FROM HIGH SCHOOL? WONDER HOW MANY HAVE A CHNACE AT A REAL LIFE AS HUMAN BEINGS?
NOT TO WORRY THE NEW PRES WILL TAKE CARE OF THIS IAM SURE HE WILL.
